we haven't had a car for almost a year now and was wondering if anyone else is carless?

It happened to us quite unexpectantly and we have had to adapt. It's a pain when it is 112 outside and I definately see the sun-freckles-burns from it but in winter out here we just get rain so walking is actually enjoyable if I don't have to go anywhere in particular as I love walking in the rain.

Anyone in a colder climate? without public transit?

Out here it is faster to walk 3 miles than it is to take a bus .... so much for using the bus to save money as rides are 2.00 for us and 1.50 for the kids and if we don't use the transfer within 4 hours we have to pay full price again So sometimes it takes us $10.00 if we take the bus 6 miles round trip ... ridiculous.

What other means of transportation do people use? Bikes? Horses? etc...

Well I broke down and bought a van this past spring, against my better judgement. I wish I had followed my original intention and bought a good bike with a carrier for my two little ones. My dh has a car, but must for work. I am all for going carless and am impressed for you to do so!!

We have cars, but I choose to bike many places. I have a nice bike and trailer and I take DC to daycare back and forth, school, library, post office, grocery store ETC.

Fortunately, this is a choice, but I would use a bike over walking any day.
