I'm interested in doing this program with Leighton who is 4. Can you give me info/reviews please?

I have BFIAR, and I think it's a wonderful program for a child who responds to stories in particular. Some of the books used are out of print and you'll have to get them at your local library, and amazon has the others.

So it just has a list of books to use? I'm having trouble understanding the program.

Not exactly..it uses specific books as a basis for a group of lessons. For example, you read the story "the Carrot Seed" and you might do a lesson on plants and growing, on why the family didn't believe the child, etc. I haven't got the book in front of me (the BFIAR book) or I would tell you what the lessons are. they use math, nature, reading, social studies, and usually a christian lesson which you can pick and choose whether to use. In fact, the beauty of it is the ability to choose what lessons work for you. It's really nice for a preschooler. I'm not sure about FIAR because my son is only 3.5...since he is ASD (autism spectrum) and responds to stories by memorizing them, we've found that a book based program works pretty well sometimes.

We loved it! I thought it was a graet way to get good books under their belts and it provided me with guidance to make sure they really "got it"

I checked the book (BFIAR) out of the library to decide if I wanted it. It's on my list of books to buy now. :) Just look up Before Five in a Row on Amazon and you'll find a listing.

I got a copy from inter-library loan to look at. I am still not sure if it will be right for us, but I love the ideas! You can probably make up some on your own after you have looked thru the BFIAR manual. Unfortunatley my library sucks, so I would have to buy most of the stories myself, but a good library should have most of them! If my library had had most of the books, I probably would get it. I think you can find the book list at the FIAR website, and there was a chat board, too w/ lots of ideas!

Rainbow resource is the NUMBER ONE place, IMO to buy school materials. If they carry it their prices are the best! Granted the living learning book is only $1 less, but by adding it to my order that is already big I am saving on shipping so an even bigger savings!

And we purchased the books from used book stores, paperbackswap, etc... They are just great books to have in your own library I think.
