Looked at a cute little 4 acre farm and decided not to buy it, due to our not having $435k lying around. Does that count as being frugal? :joker:

Seriously, though, Dave Ramsey got the better of me. I kept thinking "this is NOT what Dave Ramsey would recommend." We need to pay off DH's car (just a few more months, so long as we have excess to throw at it these next few months. We need to get our house super-spiffy so it will sell for a much better price. We still need to rebuild the 3-6 month emergency fund. And, well, we don't want to be house poor. DH really wants the freedom of being able to take a lower-paying job without us struggling to make the mortgage payment.

Luckily, and old pal of mine is a real estate agent who deals pretty much entirely in horse farms and acreage, and she's going to keep an eye out for us when the time is better. Hopefully she'll find something more in our price range. :hahaha: I want more trees than this guy had, anyway. What's the good of 4 acres if there's only 1/2 acre of trees?

It was good to look, though. I know DH is serious about my dreams, which is sweet. And I know we'll find the right one at the right time if we're actually looking.

We looked at a house last night. It was way to small no washer, dryer, no way to put one in ect.. Nothing upgraded since 1953. But it was so cute and had 2 acres with meadow and woods and a creek! DH says we work to hard to be dirtbaggin it, but I'm so good at substandard living. I would go for it if he would, but he's probably right. He usually is, it's annoying. :)

You bet it counts!!!

Because you did not do it! Temptations abound...that is for darned sure.

Your plan is a good one and the Dave-Ramsey-Angel-On-Your-Shoulder was louder in your ear than the Buy-it-Devil-on-your-other-shoulder. ;)

That weenie. He's an electrician. Can't he rig you up some fancy laundry system? :joker:

It's ok. The right houses will come along when we're ready. You'd get tired of doing laundry in the creek after a while, anyway. :D

Yeah, it was pretty funny, because I kept imagining Dave Ramsey telling me I was acting like a spoiled brat. I promise I didn't go out house shopping knowing I had a car to pay off - this one was on our usual path to the main road, and DH pointed it out, knowing what I want. But I didn't have to look at it, did I? Oh well. We're being good in the end. ;)

My real estate agent friend is helping us officially now. I looked at a cute, cute house a little more out in the country that she sent me a link to - which is what I wanted, anyway. The big, expensive farm was sort of between some subdivisions, a big metal church, and there's bound to be some retail at the end of that road in under a year.

The cute little house is between other houses with acreage and some horse farms. That's more like it. That, and it's actually the price I could sell my house for right now, as is... :D I think we'll keep looking, but I know there are houses that I like out there, and well inside my price range. That's great news.

Oh, and the farm was all grass - like 3 1/2 acres of grass with some trees way out on the border. The cute little house was tucked in the woods. Just darling. I liked the whole area it was in, and DH wouldn't mind the extra 8 minutes of driving. So now I start getting this house ready for a frugal, lateral move in the next year. ;) We'll end up with a smaller house and more land. It will be a nice trade.
