Dh and I go through a lot of gas. I commute 3 days a week, 100 miles each day. DH drives a pick-up truck because he works in contruction. And we are usually out and about on the weekend (visiting relatives, going to the beach. etc.) I know that's bad environmentally, but with our current situation, we don't have a ton of options to reduce gas consumption other than cutting out the weekend trips which are reduced in the winter.

So anyway, I've been trying to figure out how to make our gas dollars stretch a little farther and this is what I've come up with. We have a Speedy Rewards Card and always gas up at Speedway. You earn 10 points per dollar plus bonus points on certain purchases. We just cashed out for a $100 gas card which was 65,000 points.

Right now, they are offering 500 bonus points for every $50 you put on a gas card. You also get $1.00 off for each $50.00 you put on. Finally, for the time being, they reduce the price of gas 2 cents per gallon when you use your Speedy Card.

This morning, I took out our cash for gas and bought 2 $100 gas cards. The cards cost $196 and I received 2000 bonus points for the puchase. I then paid for my gas using the gas card and got points for the gas purchase. The fuel discount took something like 60 cents off the total as well.

I know it is not a ton of money, but I figure it is better than nothing. It takes us about a year to save up points for the $100 gas card, but I guess if I am gassing up anyway, it's nice to earn something on the side.

Anyhow, I don't know if that helps anyone, but I thought I'd pass it along in case anyone wasn't familiar with Speedway's program.

Every little bit helps! We don't have that company near us....but we do have to commute (living in Wyoming, everyone has to commute *lol*).....I will be commuting 60 miles 4-days a week for my job and then extra to pick up children from school since their school is not in our town. Dh also commutes 60 miles a day in the opposite direction than me.

My hope is that in a couple years, dh's school board will change their rule and allow me to apply for a teaching job there...they we'd all be going in the same direction to the same location!! (they don't allow administrators wives to work for the district at all since the last superintendents wife was a huge trouble maker  )

I think you are doing great by finding the program for helping on gas...you are so correct, every little bit helps!!!!!
