ok I have these mesh laundry bags, and I wonder if I could make my own bags from these? I wonder if the thread would stay put because of the holes? Anyone made bags from this stuff? I feel so guilty for using the store bags. But when I go shopping it is for six, so I need lots of bags. I just can't afford to buy A "collection" of bags (I need like 20 of them). If anyone can help, I would really appriciate it .:help:

However you might check your local thrift stores for inexpensive cloth shopping bags!

I also sometimes see co-ops for Ecobags, and I got several more of those for about $3 each. I know that can add up too - but just another thought.

Thrift store is usually less than that :) If you build up a collection over time it won't be such a chunk of $.

I don't know if you do any crafting, but I found these crochet bags (http://www.woolneedlework.com/Free%20PatternFun/bag_928-435.htm) and have made a couple - they work well for a few groceries. We get WIC here, and this bag holds both jugs of juice and the peanut butter with room for a bit more. I've used them for other things too, they're kinda stretchy so will hold more than they seem - and are stronger than they seem too!

An aunt of mine also sews her own shopping bags, made from a heavier bandanna-looking fabric (I don't know what it's called but believe it's a cotton). She's been sewing for over 25 years, and helped me with one but it was 3 a.m. when we did that, last year :rolleyes: I'll ask her if she has the pattern, I think she may have done it off the top of her head!
