dh went with me to yard sales all morning because he knows i love them! i got a homeopathic remedies book, a really cute pair of stride rite sandals (for next summer maybe, but would fit juliebelle's jackson for now), a m&d wooden abc puzzle, and.....
a pottery barn kids art desk and chair!!!!
i have a train table in the garage from freecycle that i got to give to ds at some point and now i have a pbk art desk and chair. it's adorable! can't wait until he gets big enough to use it, but i surely couldn't leave it there for so cheap!

i didn't buy any christmas (except a book and some socks for his stocking) or birthday last year! give me some credit for that...lol! but yes...i know...it's just because he didn't know any difference. i really may not do much else for christmas besides the table and chair. oh...and i have a yard sale children's bible and a toy i got on clearance at tuesday morning put away for christmas too. i'm sure it will be really hard to not buy anything else though. i more meant that i had the one bigger thing taken care of.

Stephanie, buy several pencil cases.. I think they were 50 cents at Target the other day? Buy Washable Markers to fill one up.. they've got bold, bright and classic colors, $1 each.. buy crayons for another (you'll want the fat ones for now, I'm sure, and those sometimes don't go on sale, it just depends.. if they do, buy several boxes).. colored pencils are much loved around here.. glue sticks.. we like the plain unruled index cards for "on the go" art (I'll take colored pencils and some unruled index cards to make little pictures at dr. apts, for example.. and you could put that stuff into another small box to make it even easier to carry it with you)..
then, when it's closer and you feel like you need to do more, make homemade playdough :) If you buy the child safety scissors, cutting playdough is super good practice. He's young for that now, but while I'm thinking of it, I figured it was worth mentionning. :)

it's in the other room right now, but i'm thinking it's a walnut color. not sure where i'll put it yet. will figure it out after christmas. not sure if it's called "toddler desk"...probably not. but it's just a children's size...like the child size table you have. isaac can actually "fit" at it okay right now if i put him in the chair myself. he played at it while it was in the living room on sat for a little while. definitely going to do the desk at christmas and the train table for his 2nd birthday. everyone says they started doing sit at a table art stuff at 18 months old.

Julie, you can always use them to draw a simple outline for "coloring book" type pictures :)
