I am still a very new knitter - I've only done a 3 projects so far LOL. One of the biggest challenges I'm having as a new knitter is matching up patterns with yarns. I don't have a problem when I find a yarn that has a pattern that "go together", that's pretty easy - but when I find a yarn that I love and then need to locate a pattern to go with it, it seems a lot harder.

I bought some yarn a couple weeks ago to make a sweater for my oldest, it is the Mauch Chunky by kraemer yarns.

http://www.kraemeryarns.com/yarn/mauchchunky.asp

It's labeled with a 3.5 stitches per inch gauge and I'd like to make a basic sweater out of it - I'm really not that particular whether it be a crewneck or v neck or roll neck LOL, just something simple for a beginner with no fancy stitches or cables (rib and stockinette are good!). So I'm just trying to figure out where to find that - I do have a crewneck pattern in one of my books that is labeled as being for yarn that is 4 stitches per inch - should I just convert that pattern?

Any tips on how you guys handle this would be greatly appreciated!

I think you might be able to use that yarn for the LTK raglan pattern-

http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pages/everyonepatterns.php

You have to scroll a bit, but it's down there. It calls for 10.5 needles instead of the Mauch Chunky's recommended 10, but depending on how tight or loose you knit, it would probably work out fine.

Good luck!

Isn't there a sweater generator online somewhere?

http://www.knittingfool.com/ or http://www.woolworks.org/patterns/raglan.html

are starting places :)
