Cody's 4 now and still cries from the toilet after BMs. We have taught him over and over again how to use the wet wipes.....he still insists he needs HELPPPPPPPPPPPP! He is off to preschool in Sept and they will not wipe him or help him...he's expected to do it all himself. I agree that at 4 he should be able to handle most bathroom visits...unless they are particularly messy.

In addition to this issue, we also have issues with him forgetting to put the lid down and I find Ellery playing with the water sometimes! Most times he runs away without washing his hands! It's frustrating because we've walked the steps with him over and over again as nice as possible!

My only idea is to take pictures of him doing each task and laminating them on paper and putting them up on the bathroom walls! I dunno! any advice!?

i think the pictures would be a good help. (hey for that matter they have pictures for the employees at restaurants so they don't forget... :hahaha: )

savannah is 3 and a girl....but she always closes the door after using the bathroom. that's how we keep jackson out of the toilet. she likes washing her hands b/c i got her some fun foaming soap.

sometimes what i do for her is go to her when she calls and then hand her the wipe and talk her through it...instead of doing it for her. would that work? or have you done that?

normal normal normal. Just be present and consistent, and when he goes to school they will do the same as they do with all children. Make sure and try to internalize it and explain and re-explain why he needs to put the lid up and wash his hands and all that. The pictures couldn't hurt, but I just think until it becomes a habit, most kids would probably ignore the picture unless you catch them in the act. Lots of kids will try to lie and say they washed their hands and you have to check and see. I think its sometimes not an issue of not remembering, but an issue of wanting to go back to playing or whatever and not wanting to take the time! :oP crazy kids.

My Ds Is 5 and I still wipe his butt. He just makes a huge mess when he does it. I just keep reminding him to put the lid down and wash his hands. I like the pictures idea!

My Dd was a different story, and had no difficulties wiping. Maybe its a boy thing
