Y'know...Group 2 already has a king triton (who is a merman) so I guess group three would be better. I would say both but I don't want to over commit either!!

I am still going to attempt my felt mermaids, but I will make a full prototype and see what I think.

Made my model for the felt dolphins last night. Having trouble with the belly gusset peice -- getting it to line up right with the sides. Ack!

I'm thinking of some beads on the belt and maybe some in the hair. I'll have to see if the ones I have look too big for that. I definately want some type of hair decoration. I'd like for the body to be more flesh toned rather than white - I'll have to search my wool stock and see if I have a better color. I don't think I'm gonna embroider anything on them.

What do you all think of the shape of the tail? Is it good or should I tweak it some? And do you all like the monochromatic look with the hair matching the tail/top or should I try some multi color combos? I was not gonna make them all pink, but rather a variety of colors.

Ooh, those are really nice (as I shove my head into a bag in shame)! I like the monochromatic coloring -- you could even use roving that was a lighter shade of the tale (like light blue "skin" to go with a darker blue tail). Make sense?

Could you make some sort of little cave for hiding for group 3?

I'm not 100% sure of the mat yet, I was thinking surf and turf reversible, but I haven't really planned it through well yet. The sea side was going to have a treasure chest that flips up to reveal some treasure, and will also have some seaweed I think. And/or a shell applique that will be like a pocket for mermaids to use as a bed? i don't know! lmao

I'm stumped on the sand side - thought it would be fun for the mermaids to come up on shore, but now I'm leaning more towards doing more embellishments on the sea side and leave the sand side pretty plain.

What is a standard size for a playmat?

Tamera - make an extra for me and we'll trade something :D Seriously, that sounds like a fabulous playmat. I'm thinking go all out on the sea side and just make it one sided because it sounds very cool and I'm thinking your treasure chest might be better if it didn't need to be reversable KWIM.

Huntersmama - how about a cove like I posted about in the sea polyp craft along?? Maybe not so large like a bendy house, but a fish sized hideout?

Lori - I liked your mermaids too, don't hide your head :) I tell you, its the roving that makes all the difference! It helps make them fat. And notice I didn't have to wrap the bottom half of them.

I like the idea of colored roving. I found some teeny colored beads to adorn them too.

I think it's too close to the due date to start a new group, and I had only bought enough treasure chests for the group of 6 that I got into. I'm sure that I can use them for another swap at some point. Just gotta hide them from my babe or he'll want one. :p

Lori - yesterday, when there were 3 groups, I was in group 1 and group 2 - doing mermaids for group 2 and octopi for group 1. There was only 1 open spot there in group 2 I think. I know that (.)(.)momma and maidenmyhome were in that group also (IIRC). I think group 2 might have been filled by Starkl even.

I am fine with the 3 groups with me in group 1 and 2 or I am fine with the 2 groups with me in only 1 group doing mermaids. As long as the groups stay to 6 people.

Maybe if everyone posts what they had signed up before you editted today, we could figure out what is happening.

I am not sure I was in two groups at last count, but I am not altogether opposed to the idea, lol! I know I was in group 3. Am I taking someone else's group 1 spot? If so, I will relinquish it :)

So I started clocking out a prototype for my group 3 playmat. then I realized I *needed* a mermaid to trial play with the mat (yeah, that's the ticket lol!). I am almost finihsed making my prototype. I kinda love her :) I would love her more though if I had covered her tummy/arms with roving instead of floss, I think. I used a little batting for her belly so she has some shape, then a truckload of floss on top. Her tail is adorable. Well, as I said I am smitten lmao! And possibly a little ADD - must FOCUS and make items I am signed up to design rotflmao!

I do dig this swap :)

In the meantime, I would recommend using roving over using batting with floss over it the way I did it. I am glad I did the one the way I did it (got it out of my system! lol) but I am not sure how well it will actually hold up to play since I couldn't get the floss super-tight over the batting belly the way you can get it tight over pipe cleaners that are bare. I think after a lot of bending there's a good chance my bendy will start showing batting in her joints or places where she's getting a lot of bending action. Whereas a bendy made wiht belly and roving over it can be needle-felted a bit to keep everything in place.

In other words: I plan to use roving on my next mermaid bendy.

You already posted on this thread so I know you've seen it, but this is basically what I am talking about trying for the body of my next mermaid:

In the Crafty Mamas COrner there is a sticky for supplies/resources that suggests places to buy roving. Get yourself some and a needle and go to it! :D

Thanks..I will order some this week so I can try it out. I am terrified of needle felting but this is worth a try to get these mermaids lookin' purty.

Well - I finished my mermaids! I made a dozen - 2 in each color. Corrie & Rylee snagged 5 of them - for some reason they weren't interested in the blue one :) Anyway, I made some extra, so I have 3 for trade now. (Tamara, that's not counting the one I made for you to swap - pick your color)

No, that is okay. I say that now but as I am sewing star fish I may have wished I took you up on the offer. My ds & I were going to stain the chests this weekend and sort treasure this week since it is rainy BUT he will understand, as long as he gets a chest.

I had thought about making giant clam shell beds for the mermaids maybe I will look into those instead. Either way I need to go buy wool. :eek:

My girls are around 3 inches tall..not more than 2" wide at the tails..'course I'm group 3...doh...nevermind :D They were mailed out today..I'm so proud I completed my first 2 swaps now :D

Well, I'm sending my extras just in case, she can always send them back to me if the list isn't right. I go by the OP, because that should be the one that is correct. I understand that it may not be, but I'm not going to fish through pages and pages to find the last "updated" list, if that makes sense. I would just hate to send too few, as its easier for the hostess to just send the extras back to me.

And NO, the list for group two isn't correct. I"m in group 2, and my name isn't on the list!!!!!! So, make sure you make one for me!

Ok, yup, I just checked the original thread (before the hostess switch), and this is what I posted:

So, I don't know how I got left out of the list on page four, but now I don't know what to do. I will be really upset if I get left out totally, because I did take the time to work on these jellyfish, and I also really wanted to stay in this swap because Elissa is really into mermaids.

Should I just send in my package, or has everyone else already sent theirs in that its too late?

Ok, when Lori gets back, I'm going to try and sort this out. I'll send in for those that have extras or want to make extras for me, and probably the left overs I'll trade for other mermaids/under the sea stuff. Thanks mommas!

I know it was really confusing for Lori (heck, for me too - I am lost still, lol!) when she updated the threads bc she used the sticky that showed participants and then realized (too late) that the sticky hadn't been updated so we all tried to recreate it. But then the list in OP wasn't updated in the confusion, and I know that made things squirrely for people.

I'm also pretty confident that in the end we'll all get fun goodies, so hang in there, mamas! I think once Lori gets the items she will be willing to help move around "extras" so that no items go to "waste." :D

Andrea, I know things got really confused when the new thread got started, and then readjusted later that night. I went off the same list that Kris posted so I only sent in three treasure chests, but I bought more and can make up another one, i just won't be able to send it out to you until after the 10th because we're on vacation. :hug:

I have updated the OP with the final numbers/correct swappers. Please check the OP and be sure I have you in the correct groups and/or you have made the correct number of items. Again, if you have sent extra items, I will pool those together for Andrea/Judi to complete their swaps.

I certainly hope this is the final listing and everyone is correct now.

I'm going to send everything that I have, and if there are extras, you can either swap them out with others' extras, or you can just send them back to me and I can coordinate trades myself. I know starkl said she'd make me a treasure chest and send it individually, so you can send her jellyfish direct to her and I'll work out her sending to me on my end.

Lori, I'll ship Andrea's item to her individually since I had already shipped to you before I left. ;)

Ok, I've got two jellyfish that need homes, and would love to trade for anyone in this thread. I'd prefer at least one more mermaid, but will trade for just about anything mermaid related. Let me know if you are interested.

Update on my status:
Due to some unforseen (and ongoing) medical appointments, I am running very behind on the pirate and mermaid swaps. I'm sorry, all, for holding things up as I have. Below are my swaps for this round and their status:

PIRATES
Group #1 - "Land Ho." Unless a miracle occurs, will be sending individually. Expect to have these completed by Friday.

Group #3 - "Pirates." 3" bendies. Tried a new technique on them (wet-felted for that bare-chested look lol) and am waiting for them to dry. Clothing is cut out. Will be complete Tuesday 7/11.

MERMAIDS
Group #1- "Sand Bar Futons" Possibly one of the weirdest things I've ever made lol. These are complete. They are sand-colored felt mattresses for your mermaids that fold up into a couch. DD would like to point out you can also use them as magic carpets that attach to your hand.

Group #3 - "Playmat." Mat is blocked but needs to be assembled still. I don't expect this one to be done before Sunday 7/16.

So - I am really bummed about not getting these done on time. Groups Pirate #1 and Mermaid #1 will mail tomorrow afternoon, priority mail. Groups #3 Mermaid and #3 Pirate will mail out individually as soon as possible :o

As you can tell from the OP and new title, I am planning on sorting, boxing, and addressing these tonight, and mailing tomorrow! I will have postage for all of you later on this evening (PST). I will put totals and my PayPal address in a new thread (since some of you are in both swaps) once I have everything divided.

And look for pics in the OP, as I am going to (attempt) take pictures of each grouping before I send them!
