I just decided yesterday that Lily should have a mermaid room. I have some tiles with mermaids on them that I will hang as a little collage on one wall. Her walls are pale purple with a deep purple on the floors. She is in a crib (or will be someday) but other than that we have nothing else except a rocking chair that is being given to us.

Any ideas? I am at a complete loss on this one!

LOL.. get out of my head, will you? :)

Lindsey's having a fairy garden room and Leila's having a mermaid room in our next house.

The mermaids are giving me a hard time too.. the playstands will go in her room with an oceany dyed playsilk.. we're ordering mermaid sheets for the bed from company kids and pairing it with a turquoisy/teal/blue/purple comforter.. Her walls will be a pale turquoise, I think.. Aside from the colors.. I just don't really know what we're doing in there.

*Fish mobile or fish painted on the walls.
*Shell pillows and/or furniture that looks like a clam shell or coral or anemones.
*Curtains with irridescent colors, or that are in strips instead of one full piece of fabric.

How about one of those hanging canopy things like they carry in Magic Cabin. They're made with sheer fabrics in ocean colors and you could attach things like shells and plush starfish to the top. You could hang clear ornaments (like christmas ones) from the ceiling to look like bubbles. I would make some sort of mobile from shells.

Here's a pic of a sort of canopy thing, like I was talking about. You can make them a lot cheaper using tulle and a large crafting hoop.

Totally :D You can also get the canopies in TUlle from Target for $20 shipped if you don't feel like making one ;) and then attach everything to that.

Wow! Here's a link to all of those canopies! http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/ref=in_br_display-ladders/601-9286878-5871341?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=13586711

You could always get a light colored one and then attach your own layer of sea colors, sea weed, fish, etc. Neat!!

I've seen those clear balls in plastic too - if you look around I'm sure you'll find some.

How about a clam shell shaped headboard? You could cut one out of plywood and paint it.

I'm not naming names but somebody is stealing my ideas couch Jodi cough :smirk:

I didn't have any ideas for Lily's room until after I had painted it so the purple may be my problem. I can't do the canopy because Lily will rip it down (tiny bit of a terror). I think I have some of the glass balls for Christmas decorations that I can hang from the celing. I also have a fiching net and an old glass bouy (it helps to grow up in a family of fishermen  ) OOH! I have miniature lobster traps from my Dad and I can use those too.

And, I just have to add that the girls rooms are connected right now so we are having a mini hall built so they will have their own doors. we have to move one of the doors and fill in the opening so I am going to have them leave the bottom open and I'm putting in a little gnome door on Maya's side and then it will be something mermaidy on Lily's. Yes, I am crazy but it's sure a lot of fun!

Company Kids has a cover and also 3-page spread on a mermaid room. I LOVE the seahorse decor, but they don't sell those!!

we've ordered their sheets for Leila, and we're just using a solid color comforter or something oceany.. we did the same with Josh's room, they used to have a dragon/castle decor, and we bought the stuff for him.

I love the shell headboard, but they don't sell it - but someone good at woodworking would be able to make it fairly easily. I'm thinking more the mermaid cove kind of bed - maybe 4 poster, with silks on 3 sides to make it cave-like..

We've been planning it since I found out I was pregnant with a little girl again :hahaha: Lindsey's our pixie princess, with the pixie room, Leila's the baby mermaid, with the mermaid room.. Josh is our mischevious little imp and slayer of dragons, so he's having a dragon room :) Isn't planning rooms so much fun? :)
