Would I be insane to think I could manage it?

Isabelle has always been a dollhouse kind of girl. She loves tiny things. She never played with dolls bigger than 8" tall. She was in heaven when I first started making bendies LOL!

She's been begging dh to make one for her for years. I don't see him getting around to it lol. And she's old enough to really appreciate a fancy dollhouse but still young enough to actually play with it.

I don't want to bite of more than I can chew but I also don't want to get one that wouldn't be satisfying. And she wants it all wired with electricity (ack!) so I don't want to put too much effort into a weenie of a dollhouse.

I was thinking one of the $80-ish range houses. I'm kinda scared of the $150-200 houses but they're so cool.

Anyway, tell me your dollhouse kit stories please :)

I'm thinking maybe "The Orchid" might be a good one to learn/experiment on since it's only $30 and isn't huge.

I did it years ago for my oldest..it was a lot of fun..I think you will enjoy it, and if I know you, it'll be beautiful. we didn't wire it up, but Alexis was OK with that..If I'd known about bendies then, I would have made her tons of them :lol:

I'd love to do it again sometime when things are a bit less strained and when Sophie is bigger.

ETA: The one I made was like The Arthur..at the time it was a very good size and it was very easy to do.

I don't know, yet, and I stress the word YET! :lol: Duncan and I found a log cabin kit at Hobby Lobby a few months ago, and we finally have all the tools that we need to put it together. Thankfully it doesn't have wiring, those Pioneers didn't need it back then :smirk: But it also comes with some furniture to put together, so this should be interesting. Duncan's really excited to have it. After getting a covered wagon for Christmas, he says his family is tired of riding around looking for a home and the castle that they've currently taken up residence in is just too cold for their liking. They'd like something a little snugger.

Maybe we could have a building support group. :big hug:

my grandparents bought it for Lindsey and it's just too much for me to deal with.. but since it was from them, I don't want to just give it to anyone, kwim? I'd like to see it find a loving home.

If you want to cover shipping, you're welcome to it. We could even work out a trade for the shipping costs if that would be easier.. I put it in the last consignment sale and it didn't go, but the matching furniture kit did, which I thought was a little odd.

nak but i have built 2 dollhouses, and really they arent bad at all. get a really good, high quality glue gun and buy the wood glue sticks for it. Read the directions well, take your time, and prefinish the walls and such before you put it together. Expect to burn yourself with the glue gun half a dozen times, LOL. Shingles are easy if you follow a few tips-- tape rows of them together, draw lines on the roof whatever distance it says apart, and then just put your row of taped shingles up andcut it to size. An exacto will become your best friend :) They really are fun, the only pita thing about it is sometimes things aren't cut exactly right when you have a kit like that, so you have to fiddle with it.

and, luckily, it's only $45. She likes the porch swing and the little ledge outside of the upstairs windows. She's already decided that a michevious child will use that ledge to sneak out.

And she's also decided that the furniture that comes with it isn't good enough...she wants the fancy stuff at Hobby Lobby. And electricity. I'm surprised she doesn't need running water :hahaha:

holy crap thats hilarious! thats one of the kits i have built! LOL it was ahem <fifteeen years ago almost> for my sister. WE built a kit in the gifted program I was in-- a group of 3 of us, and so my mom decided I could help her build one for my sis (who is 8yrs younger than me) that is the exact house we built, and we even made it those colors LMAO!

It's adorable! And Jodi..when I see you next I'll grab that kit from you..:D I got my felt wee folk book today and now I'm about dying to go get real wool felt..i really wish I had some acorn caps dernit..(totally OT, I know..but they will be bendies for that house someday!)

I built one with my mother when I was growing up. I had SO much fun doing the wallpaper and stuff. Wallpaper, lol. That is what I really remember the most. Funny how something sticks in your mind like that.

I love miniature stuff like that.

aww..yr so sweet! I am using 16mm and 1 inch now..I will need something btwn those sizes for the 3" ones I'm trying today..the 16mm looks a bit small..I'll have to run over to michael's tonight when DH gets home and see what I can find.

LOL.. Dannielle's acorn caps are largely from McDaniel farm right around the corner from my house. Don't send them yet Dannielle, I need to go see what I can find for myself, and I may find plenty for Meg too - and there'd be no shipping :)

oh now that's funny!! I have an oak in my yard, but I couldn't find a single cap..i walked the rest of the yard and realized, I have no other oaks, so maybe it just can't make seeds..? Or we have too many hungry chipmunks and squirrels.

we've got a birthday party tomorrow for one of Eric's coworkers kids.. I emailed xt about possibly coming this way and playing in the fountain in Duluth before they leave - not sure if/when it'll happen but we'll get it figure out.
