I don't know how else to say it. I have always wanted to adopt since I was a litt5le girl. I have felt called to do it. I am sure that makes sense to you all. I am feeling the call eben more these days and it is getting stronger and stronger. Today at PWOC there was an announcement that a family was headed to Russia to pick up their baby girl! That was like a kick in the rear to me that I need to talk to you all and read the getting started thread.
DH would like to wait until we are done having our own biological children - but I do not think that I can wait. HE is open for fostering now though so I think that I could get him to come around. :D
I needed to share this with you all and make it public and really try to get things headed in the right direction.

Good luck. I also felt called to adopt. It took dh a little longer to come around, though.
Are you thinking domestic or international adoption?

neither! I don't really care where the child is from. I just need to adopt. Down the road when my biological children are older and I have more time, I would like to adopt a disabled child too. That is actually what got me going. I have always wanted to give a disabled child the love and attention they need and deserve for the rest of their life. But when I had my own children I realized that a disabled child would require more specialized attention, thus I thought that a later in life adoption, for me, would be best. However, I am open for adopting a healthy child of any age right now! I didn't tell DH, but I actually found a group of 4/5 teenage siblings here in TX waiting to be adopted and hoping that someone will not give up on them b/c they are older.
Okay - now you have me going. I want to say this, but not have it come across as being selfish. I would love to adopt the siblings, however, my parents live overseas, and I want/need to travel to see them. I need my parents still too (just like these kids need a family) but I will never be able to afford to go and see them with such a large family. It doesn't seem fair to anyone. Does that make sense? These siblings by the way really touched my heart.
Hi,
I'm pretty new to the forum, but we have 3 adopted boys. One is from overseas, adopted when he was 11 months. The others were adopted as newborns, just 4 months apart, and all three within 13 months! The youngest are from Alaska, and all were private adoptions. When it rains, it pours. We struggled for 5 years to adopt, then, WHAM! Babies everywhere:cloud9:
Anyway, that was just an introduction. I think you should follow your heart, but I also think you and your husband need to be together completely on this. I had been thinking about adoption for months. Finally, I decided to talk to my husband about it. I didn't just want to tell him I wanted to adopt, because I knew that he'd say OK, even if it wasn't something he really wanted. I wanted us to be on the same page with this. So, one morning I prayed about the best way to bring it up to my husband. That very day during lunch, he suddenly said he'd been thinking for months about adoption, and wondered how I'd feel about it. WOW! God had been working on him, just like He had been working on me. It was so right for us, and it was the right time. You'll know when it's the right time for you, too.
Best wishes,
Jenny
