I just wanted to tell all of you FB users that I "peed" on the diaper and it pooled on top. I washed them like I usually do, then ran them through with RLR and then again on hot with no soap. I "peed" on them again and the water went right through to the liner! It was fantastic. I even RLRed the liners! SO here is my testament to RLR - it worked great!
I thought I was looking for a bottle of it not little balls full of the stuff. 2 to a package. It recommends using it as a once a month laundry trestment for anything. I plan on using it on DHs PTs (daily exercise uniform for the military) to see if it helps with teh built in smell and deodarant buildup under the arms. I think that it will.

one more question for you all though. my FBs no longer have residue on them, they are nice and white, HOWEVER, they still have a smell to them. I never have this problem with my ME. IT seems to get caught in the PUL. Is that possible? I even have tried diaper buddies with them. How can I freshen them up? DOes anyone else have this problem?

I found it in the laundry aisle at wal-mart. IT was hanging up. I almost walked right by it. The top of the package is cardboard and the bottom is clear plastic. There are two balls inside it. the bottom of the balls are plue and I beleive the writing on the package was purple and blue. HTH!

I have sunned them out on th eline often -usually every other wash. I do that to keep them white and to naturally kill anything that might be left behind. It does not seem to get out the ammonia smell that lingers. Olivia's urine has always smelled very strong of amonia.

I have never used the stuff you speak of...but I do use Dawn dish detergent when I can't get the stench out....it's usually *after* DH washes with Tide and doesn't tell me! Everytime he forgets to use the Allens Naturally and uses Tide, her dipes stink so badly.....not when she pees, but when I take them out of the washer after my regular washing routine. One tsp of DAWN and a rewash and extra rinse and I can't smell a thing.

for the odor, i've rinsed about 15 times on hot (inserts, not fb's). with vinegar, without. with baking soda, without. i've tried no detergent. i've used bac out & recently switched to an all natural detergent (cant recall the name, but it's made for nappies). i've tried dawn. i still have the amonia stink. it's much less now & only on the microfiber & hemp. not the prefitteds or motherease.
i hope you figure it out.

My dd's ammonia smelling dipes are the Wonderoos and the microterry liners...but the Sport wash seems to fix that. Of course it's out of stock here, so I ended up ordering it online from some sporting goods store. I will only use it to strip the dipes in order to make it last.

my fuzzibuns smell like ammonia too! other people have commented on the ammonia smell when we are out and he is wet. washing in hot a bunch of times fixes it for one wear, and then they're back to smelling strong again.

if you have buildup or smell after every pee you may need to adjust your water, is it too hard or soft?

That would be ownderful if we could but we live in military/government housing. Our water here is horrible. It is full of chlorine too - I know that is a HUGE part of the problem! We have filters in out tubs and showers because of it. I wonder if the make the same sort of filter that i could attach to the water outlet at the back of the washer.

googled this
Is it OK to connect a washing machine to a softened water supply?
No. An artificially softened water supply makes the water too soft, which is likely to cause oversudsing. Reducing the amount of detergent to prevent the oversudsing will then reduce the washing machine detergents effectiveness at cleaning clothes properly.

It is a build up issue for us. We do a super wash every 2 weeks/month to get it off and they are good to go for a while. We use only a quarter of the regular amount of detergent and the smell stays away longer. Who would have thought that the stuff you use to clean them will make them smell faster! LOL! Good luck!

I need to drag this thread back up....I need fuzzi bunz help.
I can't get rid of the amonia smell in my fb either. I've read through this thread and tried less detergent, dawn, repeated rinsing, and sport wash. Nothing has worked. I know we have soft water, which I've never dealt with before while diapering, is there something I can add to help rinse out the detergent?
I can't stand the smell and imagine my babe is gagging from it as well so I've put away the fb till I can figure this out. Any more ideas out there?

hey heather....sorry you are having stink issues too. try washing them about a dozen times on hot hot hot with out anything. maybe vinegar in a cycle or 2. mine are stink free if i dont use detergent but just use hot hot hot & some vinegar. i just took all mine to my moms who has a water softner & used no detergent & you would not believe the amount of suds that kept coming.....did 6 or 7 hot washes & still had suds....but just in the inserts...the microfiber.

Thanks, I'll try more hot washes with a bit a vinegar. Maybe I need to cut out soap all together too, I hadn't considered that.
