for inspiring me without knowing it!
I have been a member here at Amity for quite a while... I think over a year now? I am not a huge poster, I am a quiet type of person.
BUT
I think you guys have inspired me and deserve to know it. ;)
My DS is high-needs and VERY attached. He was my nursling until 29 months, my skin-to-skin child who STILL comes up to hug me and slips his hands up the back of my shirt in a hug to touch my back. :heart:
He is my child who wasn't ready to go to preschool in an environment where he wouldn't be an individual but more part of a 'group'.
Now he is 4.5 yrs old
I have been homeschooling his preschool for 1 year, and he is doing fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Even my non-crunchy but pretty-much-AP DH who was reluctant to go along w/ this helps w/ his homeschooling when I am at my own college classes, or sits with him during the day and does worksheets.
He is 4 and my MIL who was a preschool teacher told me last week after she watched him for the day for us, that she was AMAZED at all he knew without having to go to classes.
He can;
-read all his numbers to 50
-read all his letters
-write Mom, Dad, Dylan, sister, dog, cat, love, hug, fast, no, yes, and please all on his own
-knows all his colours, shapes, in, out, opposites and animals on sight
-is Great!!! at math!
*quick math brag* I found a website w/ printable worksheets and they were dinosaur theme. There is a vertical math question ie 4+7= and the child writes the answer below. THEN you find the corresponding letter in the 'code box' that matches the answer, and fill that in below the answer. When you are done the word spells the name of a dinosaur. Two weeks ago while I was doing laundry, DS did a brand new entire worksheet and came up w/ the answer "Tyranosaurus Rex" with NO help and the answers were all correct! OMG I was so happy I was swinging him around and hugging him. That was a huge worksheet we hadn't started yet because I was worried it was too long and would lose interest!
He loves math, and uses smarties for counting instead of fingers. ;) We use smarties in a dish for our 'abacus' with the stipulation that when we finish school that session he gets to eat them. Works for both of us!
But I really wanted to tell you ladies that you have inspired me, and before I read all about what you do, how to set it up and and how to keep on track... I never knew that I could do this. I thought he "Had" to go to preschool to learn.
He will be going to Kindy in Sept because I am going to be 2nd semester full time legal administrative assistant classes and DH will be working full time. So he will go to Kindy, his big sister is already there in grade 6. BUT I will be supplementing his schooling at home, and continuing to keep him 'topped up' because I dont' think they can teach him everything he really needs to keep motivated. I look at it more as a 1/2 day of socialization and practice playing that my taxes are paying for. :hahaha:
THANK YOU ladies .... :smooch: you guys are incredible. I just wanted you to know that.
