We're new to cable. Are there any shows/channels that you watch with your kids educationally? I remember someone mentioning "Mythbusters" and that one seems pretty good. Anything else recommended?

My DD loves the "most eXtreme" show on Animal Planet. It's a top 10 count down show. Each is about a different "extreme", like most extreme city slickers (animals & how they adapt to living in cities). The animations & connection to what is similar in humans is really great. Plus once she gets into the count down it keeps her attention. She just *has* to know the number 1.

She also really likes the "Chasing Nature" show also on Animal Planet. It's much like Myth Busters in that they do a lot of math & engineering but they are trying to mimic something that animals do naturally. Very interesting. I am always really suprised by what DD picks up.

She also sometimes watches that show on History channel, the one with the guy called Gunny. I don't really know what it's about, she & SO usually watch it. It's got something to do with military technology. Plus she loves to watch him blow up watermellons.

my kids love the National Geographic's Most Extreme and Animal Planet's Most Extreme. Generally speaking, NG is always good...we watched WOMB the other day...lots of great pictures/videos of the baby's growth in the womb and then the birth. Stuff like that. The History Channel is actually very interesting and we've watch some really cool stuff on there. A while back my gf turned us onto How's It Made, which is totally cool.

They get to watch fear factor with their dad, but I don't think that's very educational.:o

For littles, Curran loves Little Einstiens and Magic School Bus. :)

Your dd and mine sound a lot alike in terms of their viewing habits:)

DS: soon to be 8 yo: Discovery Channel stuff, Weather Channel stuff, History Channel stuff, and Cyberchase (PBS). We don't usually have regular TV times so I have TV guide.com as my home page and check it if we have some TV opportunities.

DD: soon to be 6 yo: all of the above but would much rather watch the Cooking Channel than anything else. She hasn't really clicked in the educational TV watching. So where ds at the same age would pick out a NonFic video at the library dd will still opt for Dora Barney or the Wiggles.

We don't have cable, but my ds loves Cyberchase, Nature and Nova (depending on the topic), all PBS shows.
