My Dh just got a job to be a screen writer for a kids movie about Hawaii! We are excited for the oppotunity but it is actually really hard. So maybe all you moms out there can help us out. What are somethings that you do or don't like to see featured in kids movies. Your help will be a great help:lol:

Okay, this is not just for a kids movie, but a movie about Hawaii in general. Please don't make the locals look like idiots. :D

My favorite movies for my kids are the ones that are real stories that are done well with funny bits but very little slap stick. Things like EverAfter, Princess Bride, Fairy Tale, and Iron Giant come to mind when I think GOOD kids movies that won't make adults leave the room.

Thanks for the input ladies. see it is so hard because they have to do better than lilo and stich ( my son covered his eyes about 15 mins into it:( )we have been watching animation like crazy laterly to see what is out there. It is so bad that we have to do it when our son is sleeping. But when we make our nightly run to the movie store then i will check out the movies suggested. THANK YOU!!!

I love anime for kids especially Miyazaki. Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro. What I love about them, aside from the increadable art, is that they don't condescend with tired plot formulas and cliched "good versus evil" like your typical Disney movie. The characters are like real children with the same kind of strength and silliness. And the drama in them is more similar to real life. I just can't rave about them enough. :p

I LOVE Kiki and Totoro.... Spirited Away had some parts that really freaked my kids out... and Princess Monanonishi should have its own rating... lol... I think Brooken is right about the characters. Putting real bits like the silliness of Kiki or the glee and stoborness that the little sister had in Totoro really make a movie real. Really make it great. That is why I liked Iron Giant too. They really had character development for that little boy. It was awsome the way that he talked to himself and sounded JUST like my 9 yr old. lol... That really does make a good kids movie. Real kids.
