i'm ready to try out my yogurt maker, but i'm not sure how to flavor the yogurt. i'll probably mostly make vanilla as i like to put dried cranberries in it. and maybe occasionally sweet dark cherries. how do you flavor yours?
thanks!

Hi!
We have been making yogurt for several months now...we have put in either good vanilla extract or a whole vanilla bean. 1 tsp of extract is added after temp is reached and you are putting mixture into maker. We add 2-4 tsp of raw sugar too, to decrease tang. If we do the vanilla bean method, we include it during the whole milk heating process. We slit the bean lengthwise and toss it in.
We have also used natural flavorings (not extracts) such as raspberry and banana, along with a little raw or turbinado sugar or maple syrup - a friend always uses honey and says that is great too.
I think I want to make a batch now! ;)

Oooh, I'm going to have to try the vanilla extract. I've made the best textured yogurt but I need it a little sweetened.

Lots of honey and frozen blueberries, put in right before they eat it. They now offically think that flavored store bought yogurt is "weird". lol! I bought some on sale to get the little containers for paint a few weeks ago. I think it was a waste of money becuase she won't eat any of the flavors besides vanilla. And I quote "They have stuff in there... weird mom. Just weird."
