I have very red dirt where I live and I would love to dye with it. It stains very effectively so I know it would work. Especially my once white bath mats. I've tried to find information online but all I find is stuff for sale. Does anyone know how to do this?

I don't really know that much about it but I did find this link for you after a search.

If you scroll down a bit it talks about dirt dyeing

Thank you! Gives me some ideas. But if anyone out there has actual experience, I'd still love to hear how you do it.

I imagine wash first, then mud and heat to set it.

I think where I get hung up is trying to figure out how to prepare the dirt, what to put it in and then how to make sure that it is thoroughly worked through the fabric, then do I just put all that caked on mud in my washer or I guess hose off. I can figure it all out but it's such a messy process. I'd love to hear how someone else handles it. I guess I'll just have to get dirty. My son will love it.
I imagine you could mix water and mud together- probably don't need too much mud even.

If it's really red, it's not mud it's clay, so I suppose you could even search dyeing with clay
