I have a solar music box that needs restoration. It was my grandmother Lyla's (Franks Mother) and it was sitting in her window for over 20 years (even when the house was Franks). It sings "You are my Sunshine" when the sun comes out... here in Western WA and early spring there is no sweeter sound. Like window crystals that send rainbows on the wall, it was always a welcome herald of the spring when I was a child. A small commitment to the belief that the rain would not last forever.
Power still goes from the solar pannels on the top to the box, but the teeth are all ground down to nubs which barely play and need to be replaced, and the case has broken at all the areas of connection (it is see through plastic from the 60's). As these last few days have been so beautiful and sunny, I have brought it out, and finally it does not play at all. The gears still move (things aren't made like they used to be thats for sure) but the teeth no longer touch the peice that goes round. I have been thinking this week about finding a restoration place to send it to and have it fixed.
It is the last peice of her I have. My father sold her house.
With that in mind I had to think about what that peice is worth to me. It will cost between $100 and $200 to do everything that needs to be done to fix it, and that is without shipping.
Today it feels so worth it to me to have that peice of her with me each spring. And even more worth it when I think of it sitting in my window for my children to dance around the livingroom to like I did.
Arn't these the things that are truly priceless?

I wrote this this morning when just before I discovered that it didn't play at all anymore:
Blue Sky Day
My body is tight this morning.
Each peice taut and compact,
like a bow string waiting.
I flow through the pose of the warrior,
I flow through the pose of the cat,
I stand in the pose of prayer.
My body extends up into the Heavens.
My feet connect down into the Earth,
feeling,
like the tree in the yard,
till I am filled with the goodness of our Mother.
Her blessing warms me.
I see the sun through the picture window.
let me worship you oh sun!
Let me worship you above others...
for you are my devine.
Thank god for spring.
