Hiya mamas. Long time no post, I know. My life is non-stop, and hardly ever slows down. In fact I just got out of the shower and am on my way in like 2 minutes to pick up miki from school before I go to work.

I had a question about CP soap. I make a basic recipe of palm, coconut and olive oil, and am trying to find out if it's environmentally OK to bring camping with me. Anything I've read about just soap in general says to use it in a container at least a few feet away from streams so it is diluted when it enters the water, and that sounds well and good but I want to know what are the repercussions of even using it out there anyway.

The only thing I can be sure of is that there are no phosphates to pollute the streams with. other than that, I don't know if there are any concerns y/k?

Anyway, I think you all get what I'm wondering. Any info?

OK, I'm off to san jose now. I'll check back in a day or so. thanks mamas. And I miss you! :D

We miss you too Ian!

As far as the soap goes... if it has no chemicals in it, I would say that it is probobly safe to use next to the stream. If you have a soap with SLS or another LS (Like amonuim laureth sulfate (sp?) that causes bubbles and that "squeeky clean" feeling, then I would find an all natural bar before I go with no chemicals.

That is my two cents... I have no info to back this up, but this seems right to me. Eager to hear what others have to say on the matter.

I don't have a brilliant answer for you but I would love the recipe for your soap:)

I have never read anything negative about the effects of the type of soap you make, Ian.

Once the sodium hydroxide mixes with the fats, it becomes a completely different substance (saponification) and turns into glycerin and the other componenets of what is left (such as lauric acid for the skin, etc)

I think it will be environmentally responsible.

THanks mamas,

No SLS, just a simple recipe. and only EOs if any fragrance, so on that note I should be fine.

and also, it's even superfatted a bit, so everything is totally saponified, and you're right about the end ingredients mama, I didn't even look at it from a logical standpoint like that.

I'm convinced. thanks.

Oh, and I'll PM you the recipe mama, it's something out of a book I rented and can't remember the name of. :) I have to get to my parent's house where I left it though. :)

come to think of it, I think i should have it memorized by now, but I don't sorry. Here's a close guess: I think it's something like a pound coconut, 14 oz palm and... um... 11 oz olive, and 201 g NaHO and a tsp of EO adjusted to strength as needed. but I can't remember the water amount, and I'm not sure about the olive oil amount.

Oh, and 95 degrees mixing temp.

Well I think I will look forward to and wait for the PM:) I have no idea about how to make soap. You made it sound so simple I thought I wanted to give it a try.

Thanks a bunch
