I handstich mine. I'm going ot assume you've already seen the tutorial on making bendy folks that is here on amitymama, and that you have access to "Wee felt folk" book (check your library! Or even the craft store - just LOOK at it there if you aren't up to buying it just yet lol).

Knowing nothing about nothing, I:
*made my bendy. Don't put on its head until it is dressed!
*got a piece of felt and eyeballed what size I would need to make a simple tunic type dress/shirt for the bendy
*cut the felt into the basic shape of the outfit (it looked like two trapazoids coming together at the short end, more or less). Cut a small opening in the center of the felt where the neck will be.
*embellish the dress. I hand embroider onto the dress, using about 3 strands of emroidery floss
*put the dress over the bendy's neck
*sometimes I trim the dress here, if needed (since I don't always use a pattern)
*blanket-stitch the dress together using floss (sometimes I use thread, doubled up, just b/c that's what I have on hand lol)
*attach head to bendy.

Hope that helps! Let me know if this is as clear as mud...
Tamara

My library doesn't have the book but I'll be on the lookout.

THANK YOU - that was so helpful!!

You're welcome!

Amazon.com has the book, and I have seen it at our Michael's (you could get it with their 40% off weekly coupon) - perhaps you have a Joann's nearby with it? (oh and I always call it by the wrong name - lmao, be sure to look for the right title lmao!). alibris.com is showing a copy of it for less than $12 plus about $4 shipping, if that does anything for you...

At the very least, check out pictures of bendies other people have made - that really helped me a lot. Then, just experiment! If you are nervous, start out using the cheapo craft felt at the craft store so you don't worry about cutting into a 20 cent piece of felt for "practice" lol! Good luck :) Feel free to post here or pm me if you have any more questions. I'm by no means an expert but I *do* feel your pain ;) JUMP IN!

ack, dont use that crap, lol... it is a you know what to work with and if you have to pull out stitches, you might as well toss it;)

the wool/royon blend is $6.99 a yard. and 8th of a yard is less than a $1 and will clothe MANY bendies;) and is SO much easier to work with than the acrylic craft felt.

if anyone knows how to .pdf it so its the right size, feel free ;)

LMAO - if you can get the wool felt locally, go for it! I can't and therefor have to have some shipped in. In my case being able to do a dry run on acrylic yuck (and yes I agree it's yucky lol) was better than that huge hurdle of ORDERING something before I even knew what it was I needed (I was pretty overwhelmed by the prosepct of ordering online :)). But YEAH do wool if you can - it looks soooo much nicer and is better to work with :)

Selena, OMG I just came here discouraged about making clothes - I LOVE YOU! You rock!! :) For the shorts, do you just stitch them tight around the waist?? I'm wanting to do this: http://photobucket.com/albums/v287/anilla/crafts/?action=view&current=DSCN2370.jpg

fold the legs into the center. that way the outside of the legs are smoth, adn the stitching is on the inner leg. does that make any sense at all?

hey! those look familiar!
ahem! :D

for the shorts just cut one of that pattern, then fold toward the center, stitch the leg seams, put it on the bendy, and lastly, stitch at the waist.

have fun!
