Hi All!

I am making the Amazonian indigenous bendies for the rainforest swap.

From my research, historically both sexes wore bark cloth "skirts" and no tops. That leads me to the problem of distinguishing the moms from the dads when I wrap the bendies. Any ideas on how to add b**bies to the moms?

Needle felting them on after (that won't work because floss is cotton, right)? Some kind of padding underneath the wrapping? Other ideas? I just feel like I need to have the b**bs on there because they will also have babies who need milk!

How about adding a bit of wool padding under the floss. Or you would wrap with wool roving and then you could needlefelt that to shape.

My kids always seem to think anything with long hair is a girl and short hair is a boy, so that might be more important than boobies :)

First thought was BEFORE the wrapping of floss to needle felt a bodice & boobies on that then wrap the floss OR when you wrap the floss criss cross it in the front and then tuck the wool boobies under then do the criss cross wrap. Do you know what I mean. I wish my camera worked I could show you.

What about needle felted torsos?

Just some thoughts.

The criss cross and then stuffing in a little bit of wool sounds like it would work well.

If you decide to have everyone flat-chested and just use hair to differentiate, you could also maybe add a necklace to the woman bendy. the needle-felted torso sounds cool, though!

Thanks for the ideas. I will just have to try several and see how they turn out. Not sure the hair thing will work, as many of the tribes have a "bowl cut" for both sexes. The necklace might work, though. Hmmmm.....
