i know that regular table salt has tons of additives, etc., so we use sea salt. however, the ENT a loooooooong time ago gave us a recipe for a sinus irrigation that i swear by for me and for both kids, and it includes kosher salt and baking soda.
what can i use instead of regular morton's kosher salt? or maybe that would have fewer additives? but i doubt it. i guess it needs to be a coarser salt, larger, w/ fewer preservatives... i've also read about "celtic" sea salt, which is supposed to be more nutritious than even sea salt....
any thoughts? i realize this is pretty random and very incidental in the whole scheme of things... :)
thanks,

My regular grocery store carries a sea salt that comes in either coarse or fine grind. Not sure if that would work for you. That brand is called Alessi. Looks pretty natural from the label but I can't say 100%.

My kosher salt box just says salt after Ingredients. Are you sure your salt has additives?

hmmm... it says it contains something to prevent caking, which i didn't recognize.
i did find coarse sea salt at tj's, so maybe that will work?

Regular Kosher salt works fine - if the Morton's has something to prevent caking, try another brand, as I know they do not all have it. Actually, the issue with using regular salt is that most salt is iodized, i.e. it has an iodine supplement in it as most people do not get enough of it in their diet unless they eat a lot of shellfish. The iodine is irritating to the mucous membranes, so you want to use a non-iodized salt for a nasal/sinus wash. However, it does not have to be a course ground salt; in fact a finer ground salt will dissolve faster. I have used both kosher salt and sea salt, and they both worked fine. Also, depending on how your tap water is, you may want to use deionized or distilled water. Ours is chorinated and flouridated, so I only use the water from our reverse osmosis filter.

Hope you feel better soon!

Is kelp enough to replace the iodine if you don't do mortons? I've been wondering if I should get a box of iodized salt.
