So we did a little spelling "test" and he got 3 words wrong.
They were spelled wrong, but they did sound the same. So he looks at me and tells me "Mommy, language is for communication, if I say CAT it doesn't matter if I spell it KAT or CAT, it sounds the same and you understand me. So I am communicating!"
Mkay, what do I respond to that??? lol :hahaha:

I've got lots of days like that with Lindsey.. she insists Nana should be Nanu because of the way it's pronounced.

yep. I totally agree with him. I just had a similar conversation with DD who insists on correcting our pronuciation of "harbor". "mom it's Har bOr not Har bEr. See that's an O" It's great when they realise these things & just a little fristrating too.

Ah the intricacies of the English language. I think it is even tougher for the bright kids, becasue they think about it.
Today Jake (5) started talking about how sometimes clasical music is happy, and sometimes it is sad.

What a bright little boy! I also agree, the spelling doesn't make much sense to a lot of bright kids because of the way they think.
You might want to point out that someday he will need to write to communicate, and if someone (that probably isn't as smart as him, lol) can't read what he is writing, then communication isn't happening efficiently. ;)
(I'm sorry... I think I just sounded like my mom.)

Oh yes, kaya is the same way. She insists that "you" can be spelled "yoo" because you don't spell "moo" or "zoo" like "mou" or "zou".... *lol*
Oh, the joys of the English language!!
At this point, I let her roll with phonetic spellings if she wants.

Yeah, "you" is a hard one on Vidura... He says it must be a French word since "ou" in French is pronounced "oo". It's a very tough one for him.
Then you have house and mouse where, as he says , the sound "ou" is not used properly. He has a hard time with French blends that look like English ones but don't work the same way. And then within English language the same blend can sound different. Argh. Lol.
