I need some direction for a project, and I am wondering what kind of stuff girls this age are into.

My dd is 9 (10 next month) and she is into horses and computers, especially horse stuff on the computer.

Mine is 8 in June and she is horses and computers and Polly Pockets and bionicles and anything crafty.

Art supplies, art supplies, art supplies, anything crafty really. She also likes games, especially card games and puzzles but really isn't into dolls, although she still enjoys soft animals for a short while.

On the older side of the spectrum...my DD is 12. Calligraphy, arts and crafts, music (both band and MP3 type stuff), SIMS *rolling eyes*, birds, and running.

Hmmm. Let me name a few things my 12 yr old likes.

doing creative hairstyles (she has a hair beader, hair striper, lots of hair clips, ponytail holders)

Horses of all sorts, especially live ones, Only Hearts Club girls, did I mention horses. Hmmm. Reading about horses and other animals. Archery.

My almost 9yo is into Barbies, American Girl, drawing and reading.

my 10.5 yr old is into crafts too (she loves klutz books/kits), computer games, Harry Potter, nail polish/jewlery/girlie stuff, books/reading, journalling/cool journals/colored pens, Iquest

My dd just turned 10 and is into:

Our daughter is 8 years old and into: Arts and crafts (especially drawing), beading, making books/writing stories, riding her bike, driving her Barbie Jeep, Barbies, Groovy girl/Lily dolls, animals of all kinds .... She especially loves going to the local Nature Center when the weather permits us to go, and rocks/gems/minerals.

And lately I've been thinking about teaching her to crochet. :)

Our 10.5 yr old girl loves American Girl stuff, make-up, doing hair, clothes (she is a fashion DIVA), scrapbooking, anything crafty.

My 8yo is into arts & crafts!, makeup/nail polish, American Girl, reading, journaling, writing letters/"cool" stationary, learning about animals, mainly dogs right now.

My 8 yr old loves to read. Chapter books, poetry, non-fiction, just about anything she can get her hands on. She has started to enjoy writing. She's always loved arts and crafts. She really likes board games like Scene It or Cranium Cadoo.

My 12 yr old daughter is into anime, Naruto, Yu-Gi-Oh, playing drums (she's a percussionist), Sims, reading fantasy and SciFi. She does not like any of the girlie stuff - my anti-girlie girl.

My 9 yr old on the other hand is into drawing, jewlry, pretty clothes, and everything girlie.

My 10.5 year old loves dancing (esp. hip hop), and top 40 type music. She love fashion and designing fashion. She is also a Sims lover and enjoys girly things like painting nails, tonight we did a temporary color on her hair and she was so excited. She is also really into art and loves art activities.

This is to get some ideas of what appliques to put on purses I will be making that ae aimed at this age range.

Ballet, gameboy advance, clothes, neopets, pink things,nail polish, fantasy books like Narnina, Harry Potter, and lately this Gahool series. Still plays with dolls with younger sister.

Littlest Pet Shop is a big one with our 10yo. She's an artist, so art supplies are always wanted. She's also big into computer games (Disney Virtual Kingdom is the current obsession), Nintendo DS, and Gameboy.

Mine is into animals of any kind, soccer (really any sport), jewelry (especially bracelets), lip gloss, music, Nintendogs, reading girlie type stories (Chicken Soup for a Girl's Soul right now), clothes, Twister Moves, slumber parties, rollerblades, and scrapbooking. She is at the very top end of that age range though so take that into consideration.
