Well the financial and thrifty books I've read all say regular term life insurance is the best bang for your buck. It offers the protection you need without the frills and expensive options. Now does this mean we have any term life insurance? No. It's on my eternal to-do list. We have mortgage life insurance so that if one of us dies the house is paid off, but that's it right now.

Whole life is a policy for life. You pay til a certain age.. you get as much as you put in practically.. So it is like a savings.. then when you are at a certain age you can either get the money out or you can leave it for your benefactor.

Term life is for a certain period of time at the end of the term you have no more insurance.
