Thank you so much for that link Marina!! My friend tried to show me purling when she taught me how to knit, and it just did not click, but after I watched the video, I totally understood!
Our power was out all day yesterday b/c we had a big snow storm, so I spent all day knitting and purling and now my scarf is so pretty. lol If I can just learn ribbing I'll be all set. Anyone have any simple patterns for pretty much anything other than a scarf?;) I think I'm ready to move on to bigger things...:bounce:

You CAN do ribbing now that you can purl! Just k2, p2 & p2, k2 on the reverse. If you're knitting in the round just keep k2, p2. Or whatever combination you want to use for ribbing.
Sometimes it just takes that moment to click & it all comes together!
great job!

I love fingerless mitts. Basically, knit a square big enough to wrap around your hand with ribbing at the start and end and when done, sew up one side leaving enough room for your thumb to stick out.

Woohooo!!! I'm glad that link helped :). I go there whenever I get stuck.
How about a beanie with a ribbed edge?

On to working in the round (which is the best way to knit IMO)

I like purling better then knitting. :)
I started knitting Dec 7 and my second project after a handful+ of scarves was/is a two scarf poncho which is basically two wide scarves assembled to make a poncho. There is link somewhere here I posted when I needed some help.
As for another easy project, I am no help, because I also started right in on a sock, which hasn't been that bad.

So here's a dumb question...what is knitting in the round?
I really like the idea of making a hat, but I'm not sure how to increase or decrease. I've only done straight little rows in a scarf...LOL

Use that same site I linked for the purling. Great videos on knitting in the round, decreasing and increasing (you generally don't increase for a hat though)
The most common decrease is knitting 2 together (k2tog), and you just knit to stitches as you would knit 1.

i'm hugely fond of crazy aunt purl's blog...here you see a "recipe" for knitting a hat in the round: http://www.crazyauntpurl.com/archives/2005/06/easy_rollbrim_k_1.php
that woman cracks me up. go read! she explains everything so clearly and has good pics that show everything.
i was going to say if you can knit and purl you can rib...just alternate (which i see someone already explained.)
WTG mama! :cuc: it's addictive...i warn ya.:p
ETA a pic of me in hat made from said recipe...(it's a funky first thing in the morning no-makeup shot...but i was proud and had to snap the shot lol) http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y121/snugglbond/DSCN0229.jpg
