Actually, I haven't read any of the "spirited child" books. I just ordered the book about "Active Alert" children since this one seems to describe my son best.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi! I noticed a lot of moms have posted about their children having behavioral/developmental/emotional issues and I was hoping to get some ideas and support here. My son is bright and doing GREAT in school...unless you count his behavior, in which case he's doing TERRIBLY in school. I'm a bit burned out dealing with teachers who say "He's so smart, but..." and then list all the ways he got himself in trouble.

Hoping to learn together with other moms of kids of similar ages and dispositions. Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Best Regards,

Jen

The active alert book is wonderful. I have found that my girls have many "traits" that cross the lines with active alert and spirited. Both books have been very helpful. The Myth of ADD is very good also. I find that people, especially teachers, are quick to label ADD when a child does not conform to their classroom requirements. You might find that book helpful. I do believe ADD exists. I have met adults that are clearly lacking in attention span. But, I do not believe it exists in the number of children being diagnosed today. I find the title a bit annoying for that reason.

my son is pretty spirited, too and gets into trouble at school for not being able to "focus"

he's 6.5 and scored very well on the Iowa Basic Skills Test (99th Percentile) but he's getting Cs when he could be making As in first grade. Not that I put a lot of weight on grades but it does make me wonder about his attention span....
