I feel like we are sorely lacking in this area and W. is ready. I really like Story of the World from what I have seen of it, but I am not sure she is ready for it. Is there anything with basic geography and history that includes something about a country and then maybe a craft?

I am thinking FIAR might have some stuff like that but we don't have access to many of those books as our library stinks and inter-library loan costs us.

Any other suggestions? We are winging it for K (eclectic).

We are using Galloping the Globe for K this year and love it.

I started using SOTW and it was too much for us. My ds is 6 but has a late birthday alot of the work we are doing (handwriting and math) is first grade level but we tell him and everyone else he is K. Anyway, I thought we could handle SOTW but it ended up being too much and we found that GTG is perfect for us.

Geography we use "A trip around the World" K-3 and a globe, and atlas and dh and I since we both went around the world at least once.

We also have French and European Geography for CM1, I think that's the equivalent of 2nd or 3rd grade, but we keep it simple.

For history we just started SOTW and love it :) The stories are very short (good for short attention span, lol) activities are fun, and we use internet, library and home library to go deeper on something if he wishes to.

I also like the Draw Write Now series which include history and geography and much more.

Thank you both so much! This gives me some things to put on my list. Going to the h/s conference this year to check out curriculums... I can't wait!

Hi Robin and also Vidura's mama~
Where did you order these? Do you have some favorite places you make your orders?
I'm really ingnorant as to all the curriculum options out there. We have SOTW, but I like learning about other options, too.
Thanks!

I get most of my materials at the thrift store, hehe. In Chapel Hill/Carrboro there's a very big homeschooling community, and the thrift stores around are full of brand new, unused material. Sometimes books are written in so I just write down the name when they seem interesting and go to Ebay or amazon and usually find it there.

I also browse a lot when I go to the homeschooling store (which is a rare thing) and write down everything Vidura seems attracted to and then order online.

Rainbow Resource http://www.rainbowresource.com/index.php is a great site for a huge amount of curriculum materials. They make a print catalog too, but it's HUGE, and I find it hard to read through (though others love it and pour through it).

We are doing Sonlight K, so we get some history/geography there. We also did SOTW 1, and liked that a lot. We didn't do any of the activities, just read through the book.

We make a lot of use of the map on the wall and the globe to look for countries, and when a country catches his interest, we go to the library and find some books on it. Then we read about it. Sometimes I'll print out a country flag for him to color.

I'd really like to do GTG, but just haven't done so yet (I have a queue of curriculum I'd like to use :) )
