anyone tried it yet?
i've been on the hunt for a secular science curriculum for a long time. yesterday i was reading about singapore math (thinking we may switch from saxon) and found it.
very cool at first glance.
anyone?

I found a secular science program...let's go see if I can dig up its name!!
I knew it was there, but I wanted something more hands-on and experiment based, honestly. If we're just going to read about science, Magic Schoolbus has that covered. :joker: Unless I'm mistaken (could, since all I had to go by was the sample stuff online) Singapore Science seems to just be seated text/workbook activites. Boooooring. ;)
This from the peeps who made fossils with plaster of paris today and examined real fossils. We prefer to have science that requires extensive cleanup time. :D

but they have various versions of it, at least at the 3rd plus levels...one looked like it had a hands on component.
hmm.
i'm getting a lookie see at branwyn's tomorrow night so thanks all :D
(and xt, that's funny...fossils and soap, eh? see...here's the thing. they want something that they can do somewhat independently...and i'm not about to open up my kitchen to them for free-for-all experimenting  call me uptight, go ahead...we all know i am ;) but on another note, i can't wait to see that soap...tell dylan he made my afternoon calling me about it! bc really, he did :) )

oh thought i'd add that i am open to suggestions for secular science programs.
i have posted this thread in the past and it totally turned into a "why would you mind a biblical program" kind of thing...not wanting to take it there so respectfully, please do not. i do not want that at all and am clear on it...thanks :)
that said, i do want a good science program...for grades 1-5ish.
Was Real Science 4 Kids secular or not? I remember liking the looks of it. I see a links to stuff about "intelligent design" on their site, so I'm not sure if the content of the program includes anything religious.

We're doing Singapore science, and there's a ton of hands on stuff, an experiment with each lesson. I like it a lot. Though it's the starter one, I dunno about higher grades.
If Singapore does have experiments at the higher grade levels, then I should look again. I love their math and their prices. :D
But I think Real Science 4 Kids looks both fun AND challenging. Have you downloaded a sample page recently? It's the kind of stuff we were doing in 9th grade, only presented to elementary-age kids. It looks plenty understandable, but, at the same time, very advanced.
Basically, we're still working through the Young Scientists kits and other interesting kits I have for now. When I finally find a spare $52, I do plan to try the RS4K.
Of course, every time I find a spare $52, about $230 worth of stuff falls of one of the freaking cars... :p

lmao re the cars...i'm soo sorry xt :) honest
i'm seeing branwyn tonight and will be seeing what she has of singapore and finding out why she didn't like the science :) from what i read it sounded like they had hands on stuff. i dunno...there are different components to it, a textbook, a workbook and an activity book...maybe that's the reason it looked like just reading? i dunno.
I too want RS4RK...do they have the lower elementary one published now? before when i looked it was grade 4+...
(hoping we see you at the mall for game day!)

So did you like it?
I love the Real Science 4 Kids pre-level chemistry. Well done.
