Ok...I have had this idea running around my head for a while now too. But kinda of hard to explain however after reading everyones ideas about scenes and fairy gardens..it made me think about this swap.
Why not have a swap where all the Mama's make a scene of sorts that would be a part of *Fairyland*. Stacey ideas about her fairy pools and what she would like to add made me think this swap would work.
I would love to make a small scene that is like a little garden with rows of tiny stars in them and have like a little Night Fairy with watering can in hand taking care of them. Does this make sense? After my Fairy is finished working..he may like to visit Stacey's pool for some quiet time(just using that as an example)This would also be cute for a village like set up for our kidlets for Yule/Christmas!
Ok..can we tell who went back to coffee...LOL!
mom2kbeth
12-31-2005, 05:18 PM
Oh Rebecca -- that is an awesome idea!!! We would have to keep that one really small, limited to maybe 5 people and no more because those would be very time consuming. But I would LOVE to do that!!!

November sounds good for the fairyland
Narnia is a must!
What about dinosaurs, a prehistoric swap? Dinosaurs, volcanoes, swamps, trees, that sort of thing. Both of my kids love dinosaurs so that would be a fun one to do. In fact, Holden just learned to say "dinosaur" this morning :)

My idea for this one os volcanoes. If I make ones that will be heavier an dlarger, then I would preferto host and not have to ship the heavy ones out to someone else, kwim? If I needle felt them and they are lighter then you are more than welome to host :)

We went to the Tennessee Aquarium today and I was sooo inspired by all the underwater creatures. I know there have been themes that include some of these amazing animals, but what about a swap dedicated to them. It would be sort of an "animal only" swap, for example: sharks, seahorse (there are over 200 species and some of them really neat looking), whales, sea turtles. Something along those lines. Doesn't have to be any time soon just some really neat creatures to play with when we might get around to it. There are so many other more interesting ones in the works that some of these creatures might make their way into the scene anyway.
mom2kbeth
01-01-2006, 10:25 PM
That's a wonderful idea too! We are going to run out of days/weeks/months waaaaay before we run out of awesome ideas, lol!
An undersea creatures swap would be great as something due in June or July. Perfect for summer when everyone is going to the beach! we could make sea creatures, as well as ocean playmats and ocean scenes to play with the creatures in :)

Great idea! I am so bad about sending in swaps one at a time...I will learn though...LOL!
mom2kbeth
01-02-2006, 12:12 AM
Definitely. I think that while it looks overwhelming when there are multiple swaps due on the same day, it ends up bening easier in reality because it is easier on shipping. We should try to continue to do them like the dragons swap and other ones we have now ... if someone is hosting 2 swaps, have them due on the same day so that they can both (or more) be sent to the organizer at the same time to save ourselves on shipping costs. Especially with the shipping rates all going up in a week :(

I was hoping someone would do a Spring type swap..
I have a few swaps due in March and April so I can host if you like. Just let me know..I don't mind..I love too:)
Does anyone else have Baby Baluga by Raffi going through their head now....ROFL!!
mom2kbeth
01-03-2006, 01:59 PM
I was thinking of doing the spring ones with the garden party one, all due on 3.24. Then I would be getting everything back to everyone just in time for the warmer weather :)
Those misc swaps ... they could just be fit in any time. I only listed them that way because they weren't seasonal so didn't have to be done at a specific time. We could add them in any time, just like the wizard, fantasy creatures, etc.
If someone is hosting a seasonal swap and also has amisc one they want to host they can have them due at the same time to save on shipping for everyone :)

I have some swaps due the first of March and then on MArch 10th. I could host the apothacary swap too and have it due March 10th as well. Great idea BTW;)
Or if any upcoming swaps woudl look like they would fit into the time frame of the Mythology swaps and Creature swap I could host. Just tell me and I will do it..LOL! Really I dont mind:D Whatever will make it easier and more affordable for all:)

i'd like to have my native american swap coincide with the scenary swap due april 17th. i'd like to add a tiny things native american swap too for that same time. then - those who don't want to make a big thing but still need native american accessories can join.
so then how do i do sign-ups for the native american swap? should i do it now or wait until later?

Just another oddball idea:
What about a Crafty Kids swap? That way the children can really show their talents as well. 3 of mine are helping me with the ice cream bowls for the
Birthday tiny things so I was thinking, if they got to choose what to make, they might really like that. It doesn't even have to have a theme!!
for example, if my dd makes bendies and yours does needles felted bunnies, GREAT!! If your ds wants to make something from fimo, it doesn't matter what it is cause the children would know that other children made it and would LOVE it!
Has this ever been done before and if so, how did it turn out?

I don't know ... I have a couple that will be due with a current swap of mine too. I know we promised not to start any new swaps until we have some of these out of the way, but we are no good at keeping promises, lol! I have no problem having more sign ups now, and I know Kris will not have a problem with it either, or Rebecca... but I don't want to totally overwhelm others that might not want to see more sign ups right now. I personally need to have a million things on my to do list in order to be happy. But that's just me ;)
Anyway, I guess i am saying I don't know what we should do, lol! We said we wouldn's start any new ones, but really that is pretty much what we are doing here anyway. We're still planning them, setting up rough mailing dates and organizers, just not taking official sign ups. I don't know ... what does everyone else think? Of course, I know who has been reading this thread, and it's most of us who don't mind being signed up for tons of swaps at once, lol, so I am probably asking the wrong people!
If you want my opinion, I would be fine with having the entire year all mapped out with swaps and being signed up for each and every one of them

We did a kid's craft kit swap in the fall, which worked out well, but is nothign like what you are thinking.
I think that McKenna would be interested in something like this though. She is always making random little things and telling me she wants me to sell them on Knitteds & Fitteds, lol! And she frequently makes things and tells me that they are for a swap with MiaPia (who is someone i swapped with on MDC almost 2 years ago, but for some reasno that username totally stuck in Kenna's head, because I still hear it at least once or twice a month, lol).

There are 12 swaps due in March already.
There are only 5 in February, and there are 7 in April. I would vote for either February or April :)

Ok, late Feb is fine. I couldn't remember without checking what was due when. I knew there is a bulk due at one time.
No, my duedate is end of March but I usually go at least 2 weeks over so no biggie.
I will start the thread later today, gotta make some lunch. It is mid 60's here today so we are all outside playing!!!!!

I'm so jealous! It is sunny and not too cold today, but the snow we got yesterday and the day before is so heavy and crunchy now, it's not good playing snow :( And the kids can walk on top of it, but every few steps I break through the crust and have to retrieve my boot from underneath :(

At least you get snow!!! We have not even a flurry yet. We keep reading winter stories, talking of snow, but have yet to see any!!! I will trade some crunchy snow for mucky, rainy, warm weather for a while ;)

kitty swap
bird swap
garden bug swap
what about a swap where we each make something that is part of a whole, like say if we did a wall hanging with the astrological signs, everyone could make a sign, and maybe one person make a holder, then it would be one complete thingie.....

I don't know if anyone put this up yet (6 pages is a lot to look through :) ) So if it's already been suggested, I'll keep thinking! If not, what about a 'winter wearable things' swap. I was thinking winter wearables like hats, gloves, etc. but it could also be extended to general winter things like snowflakes too if we needed more ideas.....
baababy
01-17-2006, 07:43 PM
for the end of this year..... not this current winter season! :)
edit: Oh, and I like the garden bug swap idea that Maegansmama suggested. My little girl loves bugs and I want to encourage that!
Maegansmama
01-18-2006, 01:10 AM
wow
awesome idea
i see accessories!!!!!! one for every swap, lol... I have seen(and am in, lol) a few tiny things swaps
sometimes there will be a swap, like native american indian swap, then a second swap will start up for NA Indian accessories swap.
but I like your idea about 'wearables' that could go with many many swaps and for many many(mwahahahahaha, feinishly rubbing hands together) seasons and categories.
like for summer, we could have mermaid costumes, beach umbrellas, parasoles, wide brim hats, sandals
for castle times we could do crowns, tiaras, robes, sword and shield, chainlink armor, other armor,
dress me up bendies :D makes you go hmmmmmm:cuc:
mom2kbeth
01-18-2006, 10:04 AM
Wearables for the kiddos or wearables for the bendies or both? I like both ideas :) We are doing a fantasy dress up swaps for boys and for girls now and they are a lot of fun too. I'll add those to the list.
Oh, and you doni't have to look through all the posts; whenever soemone suggests something i just add it to the OP to make it easier to see what we all want to do and when :)
baababy
01-19-2006, 03:43 PM
lol, that makes sense.
I'd be willing to host other "accessories" swaps too! Could we even do (dare I say it) matching winter wearables???? Maybe we'll leave that to when the swap actually opens up! :)

how about a swap so we each part part of a whole, I know we do that now, but something more on the lines of a wall hanging.....like an advent calendar, we could each have a day/box/prize......at first i was thinking of an alphabet book, we could each have 1 or 2 letters, or an animal book, seasonal book, etc, mostly wool felt or needle felted
smaller ones could also be done:rainbow:

I was totally thinking about nativities today. Would love that swap. I collect them but really only have one that a small child can play with and not make me crazy worrying about breakage. Is there going to be one?
You know, in 2008? ;)

Can we add another wool foods swap this fall (for those of us who missed it this time)? I would be interested in a mini felt food swap as well <visions of that felt fridge and food from the Japanese book stuck in my head>.
I would probably be interested in repeats of many of the swaps you guys already did -- fairy stuff (tinies, houses, gardens, etc), wizards/apothecary, etc. Just putting in my $0.02!
Thanks!

I haven't updated, but I told a few people I am doing another wool foods one for holiday gifts. i am going to set it up as multiple groups, one for breakfast, one for lunch/dinner, one for dessert, one for fruits and veggies, one for ethnic foods, and one for misc. food items (since Kenna realized the other day she has nothing to serve as drinks in her kitchen, lol!)
I am also doing the christmas cookie exchange swap for the holidays too. I posted about that in the recipe exchange thread. i'm updating the op now :)
I would definitely be up for more fairy swaps, but probably after the holidays.

Do you think there'd be enough interest to do a polynesian swap? Visions of outrigger canoes, etc!

I'll add it to the list. I think there definitely would be enough interest. I know when I said I was making hula skirt/coconut bra wearing bendies there was a lot o finterst, and that would go along well with a polynesian theme ;)

Bonnie, when you will post the wool food swap, could you please sign me up for it?
lunch/dinner, fruits/veggies, and misc (like drinks) groups are the ones that I am especially interested in. We have such a nice weather here that I hardly ever get to use the computer and I really do not want to miss that one.

Bonnie, I too would like to join in on the next wool foods swap but I will be away a good deal of the summer from the computer. Can you sign me up for one spot in each of the groups? I want to get started on some things now......
