I would also be interested in a review list as well. I don't know how we could do it, but it would be neat if we could.

we are using wordly wise for elementary school spelling (i'd say 2-3rd grade.)

singapore also has science curriculum, not a favorite by some but we just got one book for both older kids (um...1st/2nd grade and 3A) and started it today so we'll see.

we also own K12's phonics works for K and 1st grade...i liked it ok but ds2 got more out of starfall and reading reflex so go figure after i spent over $300 on it lol.

The Vimala Alphabet for writing!

I've never heard of this till now. Her website isn't very descriptive -- care to share more about this system, now it all works, what you thought of it, etc? Please?!!! Thanks! (I have a 9 year old who's handwriting is horrible, and it's about to drive me crazy. I so want to help him get better, and feel better about it too.)

If you check over on The Denim Jumper (http://www.thedenimjumper.com/) discussion boards you'll see that they're currently gathering info on secular Latin programs.

Rebecca,

Deb in the Vimala subforum right here can answer most questions and will go rigth to the source if there is something she can't answer- care to post up there? I'll let her know there is someone looking.
FTR I am enjoying the Vimala work, Sage is using it in conjunction with printing for now, but we will use it instead of any form of cursive in the ocming years.

Peacehill Press has a new-ish book called "The Ordinary Parents Guide To Teaching Reading".

I also wonder if www.christopherushomeschool.org is neutral? It's Waldorf, but I don't know how tied into Anthroposophy Simmons is.

I have practically all of the Christopherus material. Donna Simmons is very tied into Anthroposophy herself, but recognizes that not everyone is, and is okay with that. The one thing she comments, though, is that it seems nearly impossible to do Waldorf without *some* sort of spiritual base. There was at least one atheist on her yahoo group, but I forget who, so I'm not sure how active they are. Others are Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim...and Donna Simmons really celebrates the diversity, btw.

I'll add:

Reading A-Z: http://www.readinga-z.com - it's a leveled reading program avail on line. I love it!

Ladybird Key Word Readers - published in the UK - but so worth the effort in obtaining them for the beginning reader. My daughter ADORES this series and I like the added bonus of a discussing cultural differences.

Phonics: Check and Double Check - http://www.scholarschoice.ca - Available only in Canada. I think this is the BEST series for teaching phonics. The activities make sense and my kiddo loves the work.

Writing/Grammar: Write Source series. This is a wonderful series for teaching writing skills.

Handwriting: Write On - http://www.incrediblekid.com - Worked wonders w/my kiddo!

Social Studies: Highlights Magazine - Which Way USA? and Where in the World? - These are monthly subscriptions filled w/facts and fun. It's a great way to learn geography. Sinead adores these!

Maybe we could add religious curriculums under another heading, so that we have a list of those too? Or is that just too much?

Thank you for putting this together. When ever I have a question about something I always come here to see if you have it first. It has really helped me. I thought I would let you know. :)
