We just use the workbooks fro Wal-mart - but I want to make sure that he is learning the appropriate techniques, etc... as he gets older and the dificulty increases. What do you like and why?

We prefer Math-u-see. It works well for my hands-on, type of kid. He gets the concepts quickly and solidly.

I've posted this link before, but this is what I am using to make sure I don't miss things. :)

They are progress reports that are taken from the OH state standards. I wish they had something like this all the way up, because it sure would help me out! lol This is what my 3rd grader brings home as his progress report. It's also what I use at home with my 2nd grader to make sure I am keeping on track and not skipping stuff.

We use Singapore here now, and so far Vidura loves it.
We used Abeka last year but he told me it was for babies, lol.

We're using Saxon and we like it. A bit too much repetition for my dd but it helps in some areas. I'm wanting to add Math-u-see but am afraid it will tend to be too much work.

We're on out 2nd year of Saxon and my son enjoys it and seems to catch on quickly with math. I don't know that it's the program b/c I've always been good in math so it may just be his "thing" (LOL) There is lots of repetition, but we just skip those lessons if I feel he's understanding it.

Singapore has worked well for us - and we have a variety of learning styles here. :)

I like singapore so far.. but we're only on 1B!
Oh, I like it because the concepts are clearly explained, it's the perfect amount of practice for Erik, and it's easy to teach.

I've bounced around a lot on math curriculums, LOL. I was using Saxon and it was great for my first son until he hit math 54. Then it started moving insanely fast, it looked like a college textbook (they have to copy the problems etc...) and he hated it. My other son was totally bored with Saxon, but he's what we jokingly call "a math mind". I have him doing Horizons and it's perfect for him.

What is it that you like about MUS?

We use Saxon Math and what I do for my older children once they have mastered a concept, is circle just several of the repetitive type problems.
The good part about it is that it covers all bases.
Warm wishes,

What has worked for us: Abeka (in our 3rd year of this) and Singapore (although dd flew through 1A and 1B in 4 months).
What has not worked for us is Horizons.
