Do you think this swap would work out like the little animals swap? That way more people could join.

The way it is now, this one is also full.

2. mom2kbeth

5. Anji
6. lmata
7. Maegansmama

Changing it to add more people is fine with me :)

Can we have the mailing date for this one be in April? We have swaps due in April? We have a bunch in March, last one being 3/24, then nothing due until May (5/12). Early April would be good because that is the time of all the new baby animals at the farm :)

huntersmama
12-28-2005, 10:37 AM
I think early april is perfect:)

I don't mind ther being more people, however I don't really want to do a 6 or 12 kind of thing

i think its just easier if we all make 1 for each person. what do you guys think?

lisabw2
12-28-2005, 10:41 AM
Can I join? I would like to make the sheep

mom2kbeth
12-28-2005, 10:41 AM
That whole 6, 12, 16 thing has me puzzled still, lol. I like the "make one for everyone" way because then I know exactly what I have to do and exactly what I am getting back ;) It's easier for me to plan out our tables that way :)

huntersmama

BOnnie I am glad you agree:lol:

the whole 6, 12 thing has my head a bit puzzled too:)

Yes for now. I *may* have to have back surgury in the spring sometime so it may put a damper on how much crafting I can do- yet I also may be doing more since I will be "down."

Oh, I guess I could always send in early can't I?

Well put me down.

I think for the animals I like doubles. You don't see many single animals on a farm.

huntersmama
12-29-2005, 08:39 AM
maybe for us doing smaller animals we can send a 2 or 3 and if anyone is doing a bigger animal, maybe a coupel people can do the same one?

mom2kbeth

I think that is a wonderful idea :) You always need accessories. Hay stacks are great scenery and troughs are necessary for feeding the animals :)

I see that lots are making animals, Bonnie is barns and Rebecca is haystacks and accessories. How bout if I make a silo? I was browsing the latest Magic Cabin and Hearthsong catelogs, something made me think we need a silo...

Or a chicken coop/rabbit hutch.....that I was inspired by "Hedgie's Suprise" (Jan Brett) story I was reading tonight.

What do you all think?

huntersmama
01-08-2006, 11:29 PM

mom2kbeth
01-08-2006, 11:33 PM
We definitely need silos :)

But we love Hedgie's surprise too, and we have bunnies, so a chicken coop and/or rabbit hutch woul dalso be awesome.

Basically, whatever you feel like making, lol!

you call 11 small? :hahaha: Just had to poke my sassy nose into the conversation. I am still not set on making the silos but would really like to. I think it would be a simple thing to make. round bottom witha door, a cone for the lid. But, bunny hutches would be way cool. Just don't know yet!!

mom2kbeth
01-30-2006, 03:46 PM
Even with 11 it is going to cost me $55 plus tax plus shipping, so I definitely don't call it small, lol. Just to put in my $.02 now, if anyone else drops out of this one, let's just let it get smaller instead of filling the spaces.

mom2kbeth
02-01-2006, 08:11 PM
Ok, I keep thinking about this and since it is already too exppensive, another $5 really isn't going to make much difference at this point, lol. So add Baababy but no more people for this one, lol!!! I have a lot of time to save up. Maybe I'll just start picking up one barn a week, lol, instead of trying to get them all at once. Then it won't seem like I am spending so much!

mom2kbeth

LOL at llama-zillas!

The barns are birdhouses, so they would be decorative and not functional (unless of course your kids are like Holden who has a birdhouse on his nature table which he uses to hoard treasure sthat he finds around the house, lol!). I am not sure of the exact dimensions as I haven't bought one yet! I just keep looking at them every time I am in Michaels ...

02-02-2006, 10:29 AM
I just want to make sure that I make the llamas proportional, that's all. Again, no llama-zillas! :)

I love farms :) I will have to post pics of the cake I made Kenna for her 2nd birthday; we had "Farm on Wheels" come to the house (they bring a portable pen and farm animals for the kids to pet, feed, etc. and set it up in your yard). When I told my mom about this swap (she was wondering why I needed 11 barn birdhouses, lol) she asked me if I was making everyone cakes ;)

Close up of the barn
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/mom2kbeth/farmcake-closeup.jpg

The entire thing (well, except the tray it is on) is edible. The barn is a cake, the haystacks are little cakes, the hay is toasted coconut (yum! I find an excuse to put that on every cake I make), and all the animals are made out of royal icing.

The barns are almost finished. What should I do with the front here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/mom2kbeth/Barn-1stdraft.jpg

There is an X for the barn door. I am thinking of painting the background of the door red to match the barn and the "x" white ... but I could do the ""XX brown to match the trim, or black, or make it all red ...

What do you think I should do?

And some smilies from Miss Kenna ...

I don't think I am going to be able to swing the llamas for this one, so I am going to have to brainstorm for something else. After doing 9 dragons for the dragon swap, I think I would go crazy if I tried to do 11 llamas. Any suggestions of something you'd like or you think we're missing?? I'm open to just about anything, other than big animals :)

That would be neat. I was thinking it would be great to have some beehives to go on the farm. We have 4 but, of course, they don't look like the skeps.

Something with gardening (small playmat with veg/flower garden?)

Some type of wheelbarrow (of course someone may have already claimed these things, just thinking of what I know my children would love)

I am making bunny hutches, for our bunnies to live in or even for some chickens!!

mom2kbeth
03-13-2006, 01:57 PM
All the ideas in the above 2 posts are great! Beehives, little bees and honey would be fantastic. I think that would be my first choice and I what I would do if I didn't do the barns (they are all finished - woohoo! Just need a box huge enough to mail them all to Kris ;))

Tracey - we have bunnies so a hutch for bunnies would be great. The kids would love that. We don't have our hutch anymore; our bunnies are now inside bunnies. I thin kI'll try to get them outside again when the weather warms up. The summer before last I had them outside in a 6'x10' dog kennel and the germen shepard from across the street got loose and broke into it - ripped the metal right apart and when I ran out there he had one of our bunnies in his mouth and was growling at me. Thankfully the bunny survived with only a broken penvis and is fine now, but I do not like our neighbors!

TraceyH
03-13-2006, 02:04 PM
Bonnie, we have a bunny too but he has always been an inside bunny. DH said he has seen and heard of too many accidents when bunnies are left outside all the time.

He made a "run" for the bunny. It is about 20' x 6' and has a wood pile (he can get underneath) and a dog house and a spot of grass. He has only gotten out a couple of times, once when some dogs came around to check him out. They were older dogs and not really interested in eating him. I chased that rabbit around the yard (with Benjamin on my back-in a backpack), Katie was crying, etc. It was very scary. The other time, we left him outside all night and he got out and we found him at the neighbors!! Been sooo lucky both times!! So I can totally relate to your story (although not as scary as yours!!)

I like the idea of a hutch but, like you, we don't use one!! ;).

03-13-2006, 07:56 PM

I am not going to get my chicken coops done. I got them all cut out and my prototype made but since baby came right on time, i am not going to have time to sew them up and do the job I want to do.

I will have to come up with something else.
Andrea, I know you said a surprise but are you doing bees/hives/honey? I may do that.
I wanted to do troughs but cannot come up with a good idea for a sturdy one.

I am bummed too cause they are cute and I spent $$ on really nice felt so I will save it in hopes of a later farm swap.

I need an address as well. I didn't see the post about the chicken coops til just now, but yes, to spoil the surprise, I am doing bee hives. Nothing fancy, as I've been super swamped with business, but cute none the less!

Mine are going out tomorrow. I didn't have enough of the right size hats for my little women. They look more like little house on the prairie girls than farmer's wives, but they're cute nonetheless.

Kris is going to have to either mail to everyone the items she gets, or mail everything to me and I will sort it all out here.

Don't worry about it. This one and the zoo one are both going to be screwy because eople had already mailed to Kris before she asked me to take them. It's going to be a while before I have everything.

OK, thanks. I guess just keep us updated on if she's sending to you, or to all of us individually.
I just checked the track and confirm, and this is what it says:

"We attempted to deliver your item at 10:20 am on April 13, 2006 in FORT GRATIOT, MI 48059 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. "

So, I guess either she'll have to pick it up, or they'll eventually send it back if she doesn't.

Kris actually lives in Canada, so anything tht is sent ot her has to be picked up anyway. She usually checks her PO box in the US every week-2.

I actually did know that, but if it sits there too long, they'll return it, so then I would have to send it out to you.
