What kind of things have you done for your child's 3rd birthday?
I also do a craft with the kids and really want to make it more natural, not foam stuff, lol
I guess the first thing to do is choose a theme, she's in love with trains and I'm in love with fairies, lol

so far i'm thinking to pre make fairy cone style hats with streamers, maybe crowns for the boys(she has 3 boys in our playgroup) and for a craft have them stamp a fairy (and maybe their name) on a mini silk...that's quick and easy,

......something to do with a fairy circle....magic mushooms, maybe make mushroom cupcakes instead of a cake.....I wouldn't want to do red icing tho......does the natural food stores sell food coloring or food coloring paste?

pomegranate juice or red beet juice would make nice red natural icing

earlier last spring I dyed a silk with pomegrant juice :D

I saw on Home & garden tv show, that's clever or craft's coast to coast, anyhoo
a mushroom table and stools made with cement, they used an upside down tomato cage for the bases, I would love to attempt that this summer!!

Stacey you have to come down in the spring and we'll go to the garden center here in town. the owner makes those and I took a class to learn how. It was really fun! And of course when we move this year I will need a set for my lawn...

I did a princess party for dd once. For the hats I bought regular cone party hats and poked some tulle and ribbon through the top (I might have had to cut the tip off the top...can't remember). Then I tied the ribbon around the tulle inside the hat so they wouldn't come back out the hole. And I did gold paper crowns for the boys.

For the cake I made a fairy princess doll cake (where their skirt is the cake). I just baked the cake in a mixing bowl and turned it upside down. Both the doll cake and the mini cupcakes I made were sprinkled with this glittery stuff they sell by the cake decorating stuff at michaels. Oh...and to make store bought icing thick so I could pipe it I mixed it with powdered sugar (just keep adding it til it's thick enough). It also makes it so the icing "dries" like a store cake.

I'm coming too!! I need a set for our yard too!!! Just name the time and the place and we will be there ... as long as Holden promises not to fall into any more fountains

And Stacey, if you wanted to do a cake like Dannielle said, where you put the doll pick in the top and the cake is the skirt, I have the pan for thatt that you coul duse.

I can't believe Maegan is going to be three already! Wasn't she just toddling around???

For Duncan's 3rd Bday I made fabric gift bags and filled them with bean bags, fruit leather, and some of the sugar free lollipops from the HFS. For his 4th bday, I bought this little plastic buckets that were divided into sections and put in crayons, markers, fruit leather, natural licorice, colored paper, and let duncan pick 1 little toy to put in (he picked matchbox cars).

I've bought the natural food dyes at Whole Foods. They're really good but you have to use TONS of it to get a dark rich color, but they're awesome for pastels.

i saw a much easier way to make mushroom stools. but logs to the height you want. screw an upside bowl over the top. they used old stainless steel ones. paint the bowl red and white. they were very cute! i think in a family circle mag.

It was Family Fun magazine. I saved that issue.

Bonnie, the garden center we went to (the farm) to take pics is where he makes the mushrooms. He just doesn't paint them. I am thinking when we move to the new house we can get together and do the wire forms and then we can do the concrete at our own homes. I can just picture you trying to carry those mushrooms to your house!

ooooh cool! more ideas, thanks so much! I have really been getting crafty so I might try to make fleece cone hats...
anh yeah, Maegan is growing out of toddling around and becoming more the preschooler...she never was a big talker, but now all of a sudden she is repeating tons of words...2 weeks ago at a storytime in a store where my wares are at, she said 'snowballs' her first compound word, she was sooo proud, she really understood 'snow' and 'balls' and that they were 'snowballs' it was this cute story about what snowmen did at night while we sleep.

anyhoo, last year I was buying mini things and making mini things for me, cuz Joey at age 11 almost 12 will have none of that cutesy stuff, lol, so now I love that she is getting into mini things.

She really believes Santa got her her train for xmas, so i think it's an excellent stringboard to fairies and such...it's going to be a great year!
