Since we are all stalking now and posting the swaps we were waiting until the new year to post, lol, I figured I would post my other idea now as well.
This swap would be for a garden party with your fairies and gnomes! I am thinking any items that are garden related to set the scene, any items that are party related, as well as any items that are fairy and gnome related for the party guests.
Mailing date will be after everything else wea re all already signed up for. How about Monday, March 27th? That should be enough time :)
Swappers:
1 - Mom2kbeth - fairy dance floors
2 - PolkaDot - party food
3 - Starkl - painted tables
4 - Elfmama
5 - Rainbowmaker
Ideas:
Garden play mat - does anyone paint? A painted garden landscape would be awesome!
Mushroom tables and chairs
Party food, either wool or clay
Flower fairies
Gnomes
Tiny bugs, especially fireflies
Tiny lantern chains to "light" the party
Flowers for the garden
Tiny potted flower, vegetable plants, either real plants or crafted plants for scenery
Fairy pool
Mushrooms for a fair ring around the garden playmat
Snails for the fairies and gnomes to ride to the party

okay i totally saw soem awesome mushrooms last night so I HAVE to do mushrooms for fairy rings...i just have too. these are really cool too, they are BIG, and i think they coudl even double as a table adn with smaller ones to be stools,
so actually my item will be a double use item, i will do 2 sizes of toadstools for the rings that will also become table and chairs for guests:)

I just ordered wooden boats and oars and a sled from this one for the pirate swap (and the sled is just for Kenna's table) - http://www.craft-supplies-online.com/
They are closed for inventory now and will not ship any orders they are receiving until 1/3. But they have really nice stuff!

I am thinking nature-like gazebo's...but I still need to recover from these pagoda's- and with so many different swaps going don't want to over-extend myself.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this - a linky to a pattern or something?

What about wire gazenos? Check out the craft store in the dollhouse section maybe. I may try to get to Michael's today so I will try and look too.

Gazebos would be an awesome idea :) Don't have a pattern or anything, but as Heather suggested, the dollhouse section of your craft store might give you some ideas.

this was a link from the twig gazebo link with lots and lots of minatures, great for ideas!!!
What is the scale on items for this swap, is it for flower fairy size, like minatures, like would the gazebo be able to house 1 fairy or the mushroom table?

12-29-2005, 02:13 PM
ok, I would like to make some topiaries :-) pretty cool, eh? and I would like to include 1 or 2 teeney tiny bugs
if this is too close to what you're doing heather let me know
I would also love to make mini seed packets and some potted flowers or a trellis with flowers and some mini teeny stepping stones
and finally, I have some cute ideas on making a Fairy pool
lol, so I can't do all three, just waiting to see what heather and you all say :D
so what is the swap value and how come there isn't a ton of people signed up for this one so I can be in two, lol
mom2kbeth
12-29-2005, 03:39 PM
LOL! Stacey you are on a roll! The topiaries are a great idea. Heather is doing plants. If you want to do the topiaries, I can make the fairy pools. I have some ideas for that as well, and if you want to tell me your ideas I can incorporate and make some awesome pools :)

I just had a really good idea for a fairy dance floor. Anyone know where I can get those wood plaques with the bark still around the edges in bulk? If I can get them for a reasonable price I will make the dance floors. I am thinking that the dance floors will have stakes on the edges going around the sides and back, but nothing in the front. Then the string of lanterns that Tracey is making can be attached to the stakes to "light up" the dance floor. Once I get thee plaques, I will have to coordinate with Tracey on the length of the lantern strings :) If they come out like i have them pictured in my head, these are going to be totally cute!

What about a dance floor covered in leaves? I was at JoAnn's today and a lot of their florals are on clearance. Then it wouldn't matter what the base was because you'd cover it in leaves. You could still string lights though. Or, what about a moss floor?

a moss floor would be cute too. I still want to put it on the wooden plaque though because I want to put in little dowel stakes to hang the fairy lights on :)

oh a moss floor would be sooo cute, If you do it that way, i know a really wonderful wood guy who can pretty much make anythign you ask, and his prices are awesome.
it may not be the plaques you are looking for but if its covered in moss it may not matter

Hmmmm..now I am thinking I may need to make a table to place the food on that I am making for the party.
I know I am going to make everyone a cake..not quite as fancy as a Wedding Cake...but a not like a birthday cake either. Maybe a little fruit bowl too..
Wonder if I can find little ladles and punchbowls..hehehe

Ladles and punch bowls would be awesome!!
Kris -- is it the guy who made the train? Holden is in love with that train! Let me see what i can find around here and I'll get back to you if I need the email addy :) Thanks!
ok, so I was going to do a mobile of dragonflies that looking they are flying around (it would be on a stand) but now I have this idea for a mini pinata. Hmmmmm. What do y'all think?

I just got a book on Omiyage (kinda fabric origami) and I'm thinking butterfly pouches would be nice for a garden party-- perfect for hiding gnome stuff in. I may change my mind after making a couple, but that's what I'm going with now.

my fairy pool idea was to take shades of blue wool roving and lightly needle felt an bumpy oval, then add green lily pads and white blossoms cut from wool felt(or felted)
I also like the idea of using tiny river rocks(like the kind used in fish tanks or a bit larger for vases, etc....they sell these in the floral dept of Michael's Crafts and then they have some by the stepping stone area(in my store, lol)...like surrounding the pond in river rocks, but then I don't think wool roving and rocks mingle well, so maybe if the pool was down with clay of some sort?
Then, if you used clay, you could show a ripple and squeeze in a fish? I envisioned my glycerin soaps, with a blue layer on the bottom, then a clear layer with fishes in it and topped with lily pads and blossoms, I know I could make a soap one, lol but don't know how to transfer that idea to another material
you could also use a thin piece of wood painted, then glue the river rocks on the edges. I also see a waterfall(but with the wool roving). I see a bridge too, lol...I am making bridges for a non-amity(gasp!) project.
fairy pools could also be irridescent white...or clear...or a reflection of the night sky with a moon. ok, I'll stop now, lol

What about parrafin? or would that be too cloudy looking?
Then there is Envirotex.. which is stinky to work with but dries clear.. it is the heavy shellac type stuff they put on wood clocks etc.. dries clear and shiney.. maybe put a layer down let it dry.. put on a fish.. then another layer on top- as long as fish is not too big it should work.

12-31-2005, 01:23 PM
WOw, those ideas are awesome. I need to PM you so we can chat about it abit

12-31-2005, 02:32 PM
thanks
I changes my mind tho
now I have images of a fairy pool in a giant leaf, my description before was a mini pond, but a fairies's pool would be a small puddle right or a giant leaf propped up to cup the water by other leaves and twigs or a forked twig...I was also thinking a nut shell, but that would be too small even for a fairy for a pool. a hollowed log would work....
just more ideas, mini ponds are cool too
my aol im and yahoo im are maxmogwi

Fairy pools in a turned up leaf would be wonderful! Now I have this great pic of fairy pools in my head ...
Maegansmama
12-31-2005, 02:49 PM
lol, I'm sure I'm sure. I think if I were to do a pool I would get carried away and have a stream and then a forest and then mountains and then a cave and then the waterfall back into a strea, that lead to the pool again :D
I really really want to do topiaries, lol don't ask me why
and my idea and just ideas, you don't have to do pools or use my suggestions
tho if you don't I might have to make my whole fairyland!!!!!!
anyhoo
another idea, lol is to use a mirror...like a reflecting pool! or a piece of aluminun beneath plexiglass ;-)
ok, I'm all out of fairy pool ideas
I am not dreaming of swaps, but I took dd out to breakfast this am and we were coloring on our paper placemats and I drew the fairy pool with a waterfall surrounded by rocks :D
we are grown women, lol, getting kicks by making tiny things, what could be better :flowerkit

mom2kbeth
03-04-2006, 08:20 PM
:kittypink Welcome!! This swap mailing date is Monday, March 27. There will be 8 people in the swap, so you would chose an item to make and make up 7 of them to send out to me by the mailing date. Once I get all the packages, I would make up a package for everyone with one of each item (you would get back an item from everyone in the swap, but not an item of your own. Just makes more sense for you not to mail an item for yourself that you make to me and have to pay shipping on it both ways ;)) When the packages are all made up, I would post shipping totals which you would paypal (or if you don't do paypal you can send money with your swap items for the postage and I would send back change for whatever didn't get used for postage).
I am posting Swap FAQs tonight for more info, but that's the quick gist of it. I'll post the link here after I post the FAQs so you can read them.
There are a bunch of ideas in the OP as to what to make for this swap. You don't have to stick with those ideas, by any means, they're just to give you an idea of what we were going for with this theme.

count me in! Not sure for what yet, though the snails have an appeal. Any particular size--I'm used to dollhouse scale but have a sense that bendys are a bit smaller. Also, how do folks feel about polymer clay?
mom2kbeth
03-04-2006, 09:11 PM
Polymer clay is fine; a lot of us are big Fimo fans, lol! As for scale, bendies are usually between 2.5 - 4 inches tall, so dollhouse scale is a wee bit big, but still does work (my dd has a ton fo her dollhouse furniture in her fairy house right now :)).

Bonnie, thanks for letting Jodi know what happened.
It sounded kind of funny when I read it but it isn't very funny!!
Doing the best I can but being 37 weeks pregnant, fractured rib and swollen ankles is like what I think being on bedrest would be.
My family is awesome though. DH has been cooking and cleaning plus his own honeydo's around here. My mom came and played with the children all day yesterday and took Katie home with her to spend the night.
I hate to be whiney and bedrest is not for me but gosh, this is just aweful!!!
Plus STILL trying to get over the flu. 2 weeks and counting!!!
At least everyone is starting to get along again.
I will recover and SOON, I keep telling myself but for now I have to take it as easy as I can so I will be ready when baby decides to to come out and meet us ;).
Thanks again for everyone's love and concern. It helps sooo much!!
