So I'm knitting Elizabeth Zimmerman's Hurry Up Last Minute Sweater from Knitter's Almanac, December.

She says to unite body and sleeves on one needle with some stitches set aside on pieces of yarn for the underarms.

What do I do with the tails of the yarn that I was knitting with on the sleeves? It will just...be...hanging there??? Do I just try to knit into the stitch it's hanging from and then weave it in later?

Thanks in advance...I'm sitting here with horrible vertigo and nausea from a possible inner ear infection so have all this time to think but can't knit at the moment. :wah:

ETA: See. I'm not even thinking clearly. Basically it is a stockinette sweater knit in the round bottom up.

No clue, but I sure want to see pics when you're done.

I've never knit a sweater in the round before. The ones my Grammy used to knit in the round were done from the top down. Is that kind of weird?

Anyway, have you figured this out, yet? I hope you're feeling much better today.

I did find out that yes, basically you just let the tails of the sleeves hang and then weave them in later. My sweater is joined and I'm working on the decreases. :) I don't know if top down is weird, I think people do it in the round either way, this is my first sweater. I will post pics (with my new Rebel XT!!!!) when it's done - maybe even before I do the hems.

I am glad you figured it out, Lauren. :) I have knit many sweaters, but always in pieces and then stitch them together.

Oh, hey, I knit a hat with my Denise set. Now my 14 yo DS wants a "beanie" so I think I'll have more knitting to do.

Nope, nope, this sweater has hems. LOL. It's knit in super bulky yarn at 2.5 sts/in and then you knit hems in a worsted weight. In fact she doesn't really detail how to sew them to the body of the sweater at the end but I have a couple of good knitting reference books I got for Christmas so I anticipate finding the answer in there somewhere.

It's a very...um...unique sweater design, but it should look and feel great when all done. LOL. I ran out of yarn today knitting it :eek: so I have to go to the store tomorrow and get more...they have another skein set aside for me because I anticipated this a few days ago. It should be finished tomorrow.

Ha! Lauren, I've never heard of hems on a sweater before. Mostly I've knit for my children either using the Yankee Knitter Designs patterns or a pattern I've made up myself - which is always loosely based on another pattern, LOL!

It does sound like a great pattern...can't wait to see the finished sweater! :)
