i'm attempting a top-down raglan cardigan that i started when my knitting teacher still lived in michigan (she moved to california in september). her pattern calls for increases every knit row (it's not knit in the round, obviously, as it's a cardigan) in the pattern of yo, k1, yo.

the only problem is that when i do this, i wind up with *two* rows of knit stitches between the yarn overs-- why? it is a conundrum for me. i know i'm doing my yarn overs correctly b/c i followed the instructions in both stitch n ***** and the knit stitch books. what's going on?

thanks!

Sorry, can't help ya with the yo stuff. But, when I do the MO (make one) increase, I have 2 knit stitches between increases. Does it look funny or something? I would think that if you increase the # of stitches needed for the pattern, then it shouldn't matter.

Sorry, no real help here, lol.

bumping!
thanks, becca! it doesn't look like the pic in barbara walker's knitting from the top book that i use as a reference, and that's why i'm concerned.

is it knit in stockinette? If so, then you're increasing on every knit row, so every OTHER row. The YO becomes a stitch in the next row when you work it, so it looks like there's two rows of work when really it's the yo "stitch" and then the purl from the wrong side row ;)

ok, theresa, i think that makes sense-- i'm *not* a "technical" person, so i have to think over and over about something to "see" it, iykwim.

my former knitting teacher, who helped me start it, put a paper clip on the knit stitch between the two yarnovers, and she told me this was the "guide" stitch. but now the guide stitch has a buddy!

but you're saying this is ok?

yes, it is knit in stockinette-- is that why it looks different from the pic of a yo/k1/yo raglan increase in barbara walker's book knitting from the top? (i realize you don't actually have the book, prolly! :) ) maybe that sample was knit in the round?

thanks for your help!
