I would like to teach Miguel the art of giving. I was thinking of getting him to pick out one of his old toys to give to Finn for the holidays... my efforts though have been thwarted so far

suggestions? ideas?

In my experience...dd #1 preferred her old baby toys even before dd#2 was born. So..I would say that wouldn't work in our house. Also, Dd#1 appropriated all of dd#2 toys as they were gifted...

I guess...sharing would be a good thing to teach...taking turns. And if you are going to gift one of his old toys then it would probably be better to donate to a charity or something.

I say this only because of what I have experienced, not because it is *the* answer.

All that said dd #1 is sharing really well with dd#2 now that baby is getting older and asserting her rights:)

all of the "baby" toys are that...baby toys, except for 1 or 2 special to cole. he still likes to play w/ them, but understands they are for babies....mainly journey. he has gotten better with giving her something if he wants what she has, but she now will voice her opinion if she does not want to trade! & what a loud & lovely voice she has:p

as for teaching him to give, how about going thru his toys & have him pick a couple to take to goodwill or a womens shelter & explain that not everyone has as much as he does & they would take good care of them & really enjoy playing with them. & maybe let him shop for finn a new toy.

Since 2yro’s think mine mine mine about everything maybe having him gift one of his toys is a little hard for him. Esp to the competition lol How about having him make/buy something just for brother or dad or grandma/pa/. This way he is getting the idea/joy of giving without having to give away one of his beloved (even if he hasn’t played with them in months) toys. Victoria is funny she will share anything with the baby but lets me know she is sharing and that it is still hers lol but she will share nothing with the older two lol yells if they touch what she considers her stuff. If it is her idea that they play say dolls then it is ok but if Abby just goes to take one of her dolls she lets her know that it’s hers and she wants to play with it, NOW lol

I guess Miguel is as much an oddball as my expectations are.

Miguel LOVES baby Finn. He is really attached to him and we have had only a handfull of jelous moments far less then I ever expected. Miguel doesnt do the mine thing. If he wants what baby finn has he usually tries to exchange it. But giving has been a challange even going to the store and buying something.

Now he is dead set to give Finn a toothbrush and get me "yellow". I guess I will take him and let him get baby finn a toothbrush. I have no idea where exactly one buys yellow though
