Oh and something inexpensive, don't exactly have the funds to splurge on the world's best needles ;)

I like Clover brand bamboo needles. I have long single points, short single points double points and circulars from them and compared to all my other needles these are my favorites and cheapest after the supercheap aluminum.

I like Clover brand bamboo needles.I started with plastic and the yarn doesn't slide over them very well. I bought some Clovers today and they are so lovely to handle!

I love wood needles. Clover bamboo are great. They are usually about $6 at ACMoore or Hobby Lobby. Our Michaels does not carry wood needles. Size 10 are usually recommended for a first set.

Wood is great for a beginner. I started with aluminum and my stitches slid all over the place; it was crazy. Wood gave me nice control in the beginning.
I still like bamboo sometimes but have become a fan of aluminum needles...
