Ellery touched something in my house and got three burns on the inside of her hands on the bottom half of her fingers. Don't know if you can picture where that is. But she was just fussing before and she basically whimpered and put her hand out for me to see. She didn't get burned today, I know that for sure. But she's been crawling around the house and apparently grabbed hold of something....all I can thing of is the gate around our wood stove...yeah, the GATE! the thing that's supposed to protect her! We got it from a fireplace store and I have seen the same one in OneStepAhead catalog, so I know it's for keeping kids safe. DH & I tested it with our own hands and it was pretty warm but we thought it was not hot enough to give any of them a burn. We do have one exposed radiator pole that we are planning on covering up ASAP...but I don't think it was that...this had to have come from a thin pole of some sort....that's why I'm thinking this gate....

now I have to gate off the room another way...it's pretty open so I don't know how I will do that!

:( :( :( :( :(

My poor baby! One of the blisters popped at some point. I just feel so guilty because she was obviously in some SERIOUS pain and I thought she was teething! Luckily she did get some motrin when she was super fussy so I'm hoping that I gave it at the time when her burn hurt the most! I just feel like a horrible mom today!

I did call KIDCO directly and the president/owner returned my call within 5 minutes. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes. He's shocked to hear about her burn because they have been selling the stove for 10 years and never had a call. Apparently the poles can reach 130 degrees depending on how hot the stove is but the distance recommendation should keep that from happening. But they tested it with a stove up to 700 degrees and ours is 550. The poles are also heat resistant. I did find the two thicker poles to be super hot. Those are the two things we didn't touch ourselves when we tested it :(

My poor baby. I now figured out when it all happened...a few days ago she cried for 56 minutes, I remember telling DH on the phone. I knew she was in some serious pain but I thought her teeth were bothering her. I feel so bad I didn't know about it because I could have at least ran cool water over it.
:eyes: THank goodness I gave her Motrin that morning thinking it was the teeth but it explains why she cried that day when she would try to crawl. I really thought she was teething and just needed to be held all day that day.

He is just baffled. He is planning on contacting the factory that makes the gates for him. They make them in batches of 1000. He's worried that they change something without his permission because he's never had a call about a burn.

He is sending me two extensions for free.

He also asked me to try putting the front of the gate at a distance where I can no longer feel the heat and it ended up being 30 inches away from the stovefront. That's crazy because it's halfway through my living room now but whatever it takes, I guess.

He is planning on testing the gate again and possible changing the recommendation from 20 " to 30". He is going to keep me up to date with whatever is happening.
