I do French History and Geography with Vidura, but would like to do American history too but in a non-patriotic way.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the Abeka "My America My world" just doesn't do it for us.
I'm trying to find something informative, with all the necessary but without the patriotic/religious spirit. I'd like something impartial if you know what I mean.

What do you use and why?

Thank you.

Radhanuga

We don't do history yet but I know sonlight takes a world approach to history rather than focus on America. Maybe you could look at their booklist?

That's the thing, I really want "American history", because I don't know much about it myself :o

I'm planning to use Story of the World for world history a little later, when his bases are good with French/European History.

But I'd like something really about teh country he was born in.

Is their a particular era of American History you would like to study? We like the Evan-moor history Pockets. It focuses on particular time periods. My kids really liked all the activities.

Another helpful resource that I own is "All through the Ages" by Christine Miller. It is an extensive book of booklists broken down incrementally, by age, subject and time period.
