I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say I feel your pain. I've got a screamer too. Truman's isn't as high pitched, its more of a low growl, but he does it all the time. It's his universal sign for hungry, tired, bored, happy, frustrated, needing snuggles, needing that toy over there, needing his big brother to stop hugging him....

If I didn't see the contents of his diapers, I'd think he was constipated all the time.

We signed with Cole for some of the basics, like eat & more. Those were the only two he ever really used.

Here's a great site for looking up signs:

so sorry erica...that sounds really frustrating.

we signed with savannah from the time she was about 6 months old or so...it was really great. i can't imagine NOT doing it...we sign some with jackson now. savannah did her first sign on her own (not initiated by us signing) at around 11 months old.

We are signing with our youngest, he is now 14 months and can sign..

eat
more
up
drink
no
walk

he did is first sign at about 11-11.5 months

we show him the signs I get from the ASL website and he usually makes his own that we end up using, he has started putting 2 signs together and it has made communicating with him so much easier, he used to be a cryer and would just cry and cry now he signs first and if we don't realize it and he is crying I can say what do you want and he will usually sign.

I began showing him the sign for more and once he picked it up he has learned the others very quickly.

Good luck

We did signs with Miguel and plan to do them with Finn

I loved the book "but not the hippopatamus" it had many of the 1st signs Miguel used

Juice
dance
hat
yes
no

He also learned more, help, please, thankyou, and eat... The words he learned to sign were also the 1st words he spoke

he still uses the sign for hurt which we used when explaining why he shouldnt do things like hit or touch the stove... I think it carries more weight when we sign when we talk especially when disciplining

what books on baby-signing would you recommend? My baby, for the moment, is 1.5 is it too late? He is a yeller, and I am always looking for more ways to help him. If the whole world could revolve around him I think he would be OK but life is rarely like that as he has an alder brother and another sibling on the way.

we have the book sign with your baby by joseph garcia (came with a vhs tape too)

you can use those....or you can use any american sign language book. there are often websites that have signs on them.
