I admit it, I'm a bit stir crazy at the moment. Been sewing my brains out. Both kids are sick. Dh's been working 80-90hrs a week. Haven't talked to a grown-up in forever. And we're a one-car family so, obviously, dh has had it constantly. It's a good thing I have orders/trades keeping me busy or I might paint the walls plaid or something LOL!

Anyhoo...

How many baskets do you have in your main living area? You get to count the kitchen, the area of your main eating table (whether it be part of the actual kitchen or detached), the main family/living room, foyer, hall bathroom (the one a visitor would use).

I'm wondering if perhaps I really am the basket queen... <insert wicked cackle here>

off to count...

59

and I swear I'm looking around thinking, "is that it?"

and I didn't even count the questionable items...wicker doll stroller, wicker tissue box cover, wicker footstool, metal basket-ish container or the crocheted fabric fruit basket.

darn, now I'm thinking I need to edit out my answer...let people at least think they have a chance. LOL!

well, this queen is off to wash some dishes and scrub a kitchen floor. (and while I'm here in the kitchen I need to reevaluate the piece of cheesecake I left for dh. I think it might be a tad too big. gotta fix that.) then off to sew more animals...

Nicole, I thought you'd have more than that!

Oh...and a basket funny... A good friend recently invited me to Longaberger party at her house. She knows how much I do not like home sales parties but she thought I'd make an exception for Longaberger because I like baskets so much. I had to set her straight. I am not about quality...totally about quantity! ROFL!!

What? 59?? Whoa.

I have, three. And one isn't a basket it is metal but it is used like a basket, so I'll count it. That is for, my ENTIRE house.

LOL!! I think you are the queen, but i'm gonna try anyway.

Kitchen-- 9 (I have those basket drawers, which count for 4).

Dinning room-- 3 out-- (not counting what's in closed hsing cabinet). Fruit, crayons, playdough stuff).

Living room- Including what's on the bookcases, 7 (books, fireplace wood, knitting stuff, sewing stuff, baby toys for my sister's babe)

Foyer: 5 (shoes, gloves, hats, scarves, library books)

um....one :shake:

in my defense, we just moved and got rid of almost every non-essential thing we owned to move. The one basket I do have has some fall decor in it currently, getting ready to find some pinecones to put in there for winter though

I have 10 in the house in use, and I have 6 out in the garage waiting to be filled. One of our thrift stores sells baskets by the bundle- like 4 or 5 baskets for a $1. What a deal!

Tawnya

PS we are a one car family too and dh is gone a lot for work. I am generally too lazy/sleepy to get up and take him to work at 3:30 in the morning to keep the car......

Um..one? It was a gift from MIL; it sits on the entrance/kitchen counter, as a catch-all. I don't have anything AGAINST them, I just don't like average run of the mill ones, and the other ones are always WAY too expensive for me! lol

15 in my whole house.

My sister LOVES baskets and such. She married a guy who hates baskets! He calls her the "kinck-knack paddy whack queen" and now they have a house that is always clean and no clutter. She might have two baskets now.

can you believe I missed one LOL! The bathroom trash can is a basket...so 60.

But, in my defense, 8 baskets that are in the living room are part of the portable Natural Playthings factory. And another 3 are holding personal projects. And 4 are part of my yet-to-be-disclosed new business venture. So these 15 basket don't really live in the main areas of the house. They're just out because I'm using their contents.

2 are the kids' school baskets (one for each). One holds magazines. 3 hold kitchen linens and are on shelves and the kitchen trash can is a laundry hamper basket. One holds shoes in the foyer. In the bathroom one holds soaps, one holds potpourri, and one is the trash can. I have a wrought iron stand that holds 8, decoratively, in a corner of the dining room. There are 16 going across the top of the kitchen cabinets and refrigerator. And the rest have little jobs like holding napkins, my stash of small candles, etc. I promise it doesn't look like you're likely to get attacked by a basket in here rofl!

I love my baskets! They buy me the storage space our teeny house is lacking. It's the only way I can maintain order. And having Garden Ridge 5 minutes from home is just too big a temptation. :smirk: Their prices on baskets are wonderful.

I thought for sure someone would admit to having more! (heck, I thought Nicole would lol...now you KNOW it was killing me to avoid the Amish baskets lol)

what is a basket? I have a sterilite box w/baby toysin it - it has a lid, of course. And there is a waste paper basket in the bathroom. That's it.

i don't care for baskets because they make me feel like the things in htem are jjust jumbled up and not organized. I like having a clean surface and a basket contains too many items.

are you talking just natural material baskets, like wicker? We don't have many of those, not my style. But we have tons of plastic bin/baskets that we got for $1 a pop & use for everything. I also have a few cloth baskets that I like for things but match our style better.

in LR - 9
office- 5
entry & hall - 2
kitchen - 13
bathroom - 3
craft room - 7 (& 20 cardboard photo boxes for materials)

So that's 39 on the first floor. Most are in cabinets and things though. YOu'd never notice them all.

the ones I counted are just the wicker and woven wood slat (fake Longaberger lol) baskets.

Rivka, that's so ironic because for me baskets organize me. And I always look for the perfect basket for each application so that stuff isn't jumbled. But, I'm one of those people who likes to have everything where I can see it and easily accessible. I'm not an empty-kitchen-counter kinda girl.

In fact, I'm trying to convince dh that we don't need upper cabinets in the kitchen. I can't stand cabinets (I always leave all the doors open and bang my head lol). My dream kitchen would be shelves with baskets.

I'm with Rivka, LOL, 0 baskets here.

But, I AM an empty counter girl. Heh heh... that's what drawers and cabinets are for. I've got to have things tucked away, or else I feel surrounded. :)

I only have 33 in my main living areas; 19 in the kitchen, 9 in the bathroom and 5 in the livingroom. If you listened to my dh you would think my house was over run with them. :)

You know..a basket for my knitting stuff wouldn't be a bad idea. It's residing in a big plastic bag right now, with smaller bags for projects...hrrrmmmmm

The rag basket you made me  is on my coffee table. I have a wicker basket on my dining table holding my cloth napkins. A Stair basket, on the stairs :) & longaberger basket on the kitchen counter holding my mixing spoons.

**I forgot the 2 in the bathroom, on the back of the toilets...change my count to 6 ~WooHoo!!

We have 38 in our main living areas - I use them to hold nearly everything:)
from fruit, to snack bags, yarn, books, magazines, toys and more toys, tea, homeschool stuff, cassette tapes, chalk, crayons, paper, pencils, etc...

More than I thought.

One in the kitchen for cloth napkins.
One in the living room for library books.
One in the living room for seasonal books.
Two in the living room for small toys.

Then, if you count the basement (playroom), there are 6 baskets for toys.

total:11

LOL...ok, I took pics. But, really, they're underwhelming. It really doesn't look (at least to me lol) like there are an insane number of baskets squeezed into my tiny house. And, hey!, you'll get the Natural Playthings factory tour rofl! I need to do some cleaning in the kitchen so ignore that. I marked all the baskets...there are a couple that are hidden from view so you'll have to trust me that it's really there LOL!

ok, first pic is where I'm working on NP stuff...the "assembly dept" on the NP factory tour lol! Big basket of felt on the right, next to the couch, on the couch there is a square basket of my emb floss and a small basket holding usable felt scraps. On the 1/2 wall is a basket of things that are next to be worked on (already cut out felt animals and wrapped bendy bodies)

Second pic...3 baskets of in-progress personal crafty projects under end table. Under the other end table is 2 baskets that hold finished, in-stock NP items. This is the warehouse on our NP factory tour.

Third pic, under the nature table is my magazine basket and, barely showing its contents, the basket on the left holds the beginnings of stock for my new business. (don't worry...this is *in addition* to NaturalPlaythings) 3 small baskets are inside that basket...along with other stuff. On the nature table is a basket of pine cones and 2 small pumpkin shaped baskets. On top of the bookcase are 3 baskets...one holds napkins, one holds a plant, and one holds tea lights/votives/incense/lighter.

Kitchen. 9 baskets on top of cabinets...5 on top of fridge...3 on shelves (holding linens)...and the trash can is a basket.

And in the corner of the dining room is the basket stand. It has 9 baskets on it. And on the floor are the kids' school baskets.

And the metal container on the right (didn't count it as a basket) is our final stop on the NP factory tour. This is our gift wrap and shipping dept. :)

ok, that's 54 accounted for baskets. 3 more in the bathroom and the shoe basket in the foyer. Hmmm...that's 58. Oh! I missed one in the pic. On the top shelf of the bookcase there's a green basket on the left that's not marked. 59.

15 We use ours for organization, every one of them is currently in use. I am searching for a small wicker basket for behind the master bedroom toilet.

Danielle, the baskets hanging are making me laugh.

D - I like your kitchen cabinets!

I have baskets on top of my cabinets too. I used to have more baskets around but Whitley is always into everything (still) and it would drive me totally insane when things in the baskets got mixed up. If you count other kinds of containers besides actual baskets, I woud have a whole lot more!

Lisha, I'm loving your sig pic! I keep opening this thread over and over just to see it again LOL!

pssst, LeeAnn, they photograph well...the cabinets are scary in real life. I'm thinking about doing a distressed paint finish on them so I can pretend their dilapidated state is all part of the *look* lol

Hmmmmmmmmm...... I don't have many anymore.

2 Longaberger (1 was a gift)

3 that are part of a nesting set

and 1 that is sitting on my dining room table that is part of a gift for someone (I think it's such a neat/pretty basket that I don't want to give it away! And they didn't have another one like it... they are handcrafted here in Kentucky)

Dannielle ... my mom may have you beat in the basket department... she collects longaberger. Even her purse is a basket. If I remember to count when I go there later today I'll post how many she has.

Back from my parents.....

And they thought I was a nut for doing it but I counted all the baskets in their house (main floors, not the basement or storage areas)

She has 64 baskets!!!! She kept telling me "oh, those don't count, they aren't longaberger"

Then they talked about the time several years ago when they still lived in NJ when my brother went around counting all the 'carousel' things in the house. She had 74 on that one. LOL And I'm positive that number has gone up over the last few years.
