I'm new to the cloth diaper world and was wondering how you do it? Do you soak them beforehand? Do you add anything special to the washer?

TIA,

You will find that everyone has their own favorite method, LOL. Depending on what kind of water you have, some things will work better than others. For me, I use a dry pail, and I wash every third day. I run my dipes through a cold water prewash with baking soda that agitates them for a few minutes then lets them sit and soak till I restart the machine. I usually let them soak for anywhere from 20 minutes to overnight, depending on how distracted I got, LOL. After that, I run them on a hot wash with a small amount of detergent or Sportwash for the longest cycle my machine will do, which is 10 minutes in my case. Most of the time that is all I will do, but if I notice that they don't seem to be absorbing well or something, I will run a few extra rinses to make sure all the soap is washed clean.

HTH.

cold prewash with Bac-Out...then hottest cycle w/some detergent and tea tree and vinegar in rinse...then either an extra rinse or another hot wash depending on how smelly they are.

why the seperate pails?
someone from fuzzibunz reccommended it.

two reasons.
-one b/c i have more than enough inserts so...i can do a quick wash of the 'outsides' and have more diapers without having to wash so much.

-two, b/c the wipes have oil in the solution...and fuzzibunz said this could possibly cause buildup on my diapers to wash them together.
