animal for a village? So, for instance, a donation of $50 = a pig for a family in Uganda or something like that?
I need to figure out what to buy my exh. He just got married and their combined net worth is about 200x mine (and, no, I'm not stretching the truth here). I should get him something, but anything I could buy either isn't something that would be up to their standards or else they probably already have it or else I can't afford it. So, I'm thinking donation.

We buy lots of our Christmas gifts from Heifer International.
We also love Good Gifts (http://www.goodgifts.org/goodgifts/). They have quite a variety of things - like
Peace and quiet (http://www.goodgifts.org/goodgifts/product_info.php?cPath=79&products_id=77)
Bikes for midwives (http://www.goodgifts.org/goodgifts/product_info.php?cPath=79&products_id=158)
Protect a sloth's natural habitat (http://www.goodgifts.org/goodgifts/product_info.php?cPath=79&products_id=201)
Lots of other cool things we don't typically find when shopping at the mall!

Sameritan's Purse is another organization that does this. It is a Christian organization though and does not appeal to all. For those it does appeal too- I get a catalog from them each year and my children go through it and tell me what they would like to "buy". You can choose from goats, chicken, milk, blankets, cows, soccer balls, all the way to a flight for a child to get mediacl attention.

I love HI soooo much! Whenever our friends have a baby, we buy chickens & rabbits in the baby's name. They have a great farm here in MA that people can visit the animals and learn more about their org. $$ sent to HI is money well spent in my book. :)
