View Full Version : Ornament Swap! This was so fun last time!

We did this year before last here and it was great fun for everyone!

If you're up for this again (or for the first time), sign up here.

Who can swap: Anyone who has been a member of AmityMama for 30 days and has at least 30 posts.

What are we swapping: Christmas/holiday ornaments! These can be from your own stash, handmade or you can go out and buy if you want to. If you are looking for a certain type, you can specify what type when you sign up. Say your tree is all in Victorian, you can say that you want Victorian. If you want specific types like Disney, "Baby's 1st Christmas", etc, you can list, keep in mind it's easier to match non-specifics.

When: I'll close sign-ups this Wednesday & we will ship w/ DC by November 5th.

I love silver & blue.

Oh i'm for sure in!!!
We have an eclectic tree full of ornaments that hold special meaning for us based on who gave them as gifts, who made them for us, where we bought it as a family etc.
We have everything from greatgrammas hand crotcheted 'ice skates' to disney ornaments.

I'd love to participate :)

*edited to add we're easy.
We do Santa, angels, Jesus, Nativity, Disney, Personalized, Plastic, wood, you name it - if you like it, made it, think its special then we'll be honored and blessed to have it on our tree this year :)

What a fun idea!

I want to join. Our tree is a mix of ornaments too. We just prefer no Santas, no angels, or commercial characters (ie Disney, scooby doo, etc.) though.

We love sports, construction trucks, alligators and monkeys. I have twin boys.

our tree is eclectic as well-a bit of rustic country mixed with ornaments from travels, but mostly my favorites are the kids' handmade ornaments.

rustic wooden ornaments
stars
black santas
glass beaded ornaments

dislikes:

character stuff
sports teams

i'll play :D

we have an eclectic mix on our tree, ranging from artisan to collectible (think sterling or crystal limited ed's) to handmade to character (dh collected disney ones when we were dating).

we prefer bright colors, not the thin glass balls you find 20/$4 at target, kwim? but any bright colored ornaments...homemade is fine, natural fiber is fine too (although it isn't bright, lol), really love handblown glass type stuff (think brody shaw type, although target has mass produced stuff that isn't nearly as nice but we like it too). i'm not fond of characters (we have enough of those on there) or themes per se, just really unique memorable ornaments. OOAK preferred i'd guess to make it easy.

ship by this weekend? that soon? are stores around carrying holiday yet (thinking craft stuff as well as ornaments)? i've not been out much in recent weeks so i have no idea.

if so that's ok, we'll still play, i'll just make certain to get out of my house and go looking, rofl!

I'll play, but is anybody up for shipping to Australia??

If it's all good, we are doing:

lime green, turquoise and silver this year

no characters

no country or rustic

no Santa

I love glass balls, but I don't think they would be safe for shipping over here. I like beaded, too. Unique and artisan, too, but don't feel obligated, cause it is not a big deal!

Well, 1) the date was set way back when we started the swap, 2) there are ornies in the stores now and 3) part of the idea might be finding something in your own ornie stash to send to someone else. The craft stores DEFINITELY have XMas right now, as do Hallmark, Target & Walmart. HTH

I'd love to join but I'm not ready yet. I don't want to shop/make Christmas/Yule things yet! And shipping by Saturday? Too soon for me! Maybe next round...

I don't think we ever offically closed this did we? I never got someone assigned to me. Could we keep it open a bit longer and extend the ship by date?

oh...i hadn't seen this until today but i've had quite a few things going on here (mc and other more crazy stuff) that have kept me from noticing stuff.

i can ship by saturday if i know soon who my partner is so i have time to make something. my ornaments are in the attic and will be until near thanksgiving so there is no way i could trade one of mine yet, although i wouldn't mind it if we had pulled the stuff out.

i can do a variety of crafty/artsy things, given the recent events here i've been hermiting & haven't been out to the stores in a while. well...ikea but that doesn't count, lol :D

I got my ornament from Murali in Australia! It's a really sweet hand beaded firefly ornament. I had told her I wanted one in memory of the babe we lost in April.

Thank you so much mama, did you make it yourself? It's really lovely!

Oh, I am glad you liked it! Yes, I made it myself, since I had a pretty good idea I wouldn't be able to come up with a firefly any other way, lol...

The main wing fabric is handprinted silk made by my MIL, the eyes are faceted pearls, and the black is recycled from an Italian silk tie. I meant to use vintage kimono fabric in there, too, but the colors just weren't working. I had so much fun making it up, and I am glad you enjoy it, too.

Wow, handprinted silk, pearls and hand beaded to boot! You went over and above mama. It will hold a place of honor on our tree for years to come!!!
