I saw some velour terry at JoAnns this afternoon and am thinking that it would make a front side to my cloth wipes (flanel or flannelette on back). I am having trouble with my wipes pilling and leaving lint where no lint should be with the 2 sided flannel. Has anyone here ever worked with velour terry and do you like it and do you think it would be a good option?? So many questions so little time....

Ive actually had that VT from Joanns before to make diapers.. Its good but didnt stay as soft as I would have liked. What about velour or OV for wipes?? You can probably get Velour online cheaper per yd than the VT. It should work ok for wipes if you wanted to try it though :) Good Luck

I make all my wipes out of woven terry velour. I just make them a single layer and they work great.

Sorry, what is OV? And thank for the tips, I do want something very soft. what I actually had in mind was whatever kind of terry they use for baby washclothes. Stays soft, the weave make it pick up "messes" nicely, washes well, etc... but I could find nothing like it at JoAnns (as an aside, I don't usually buy yardage at JoAnn's, I like to buy small samples so I know what it feels like, how it sews, how it washes, what it is called, and so on, before I buy it online. JoAnns is actually pretty expensive, at least around here.

I think OV is organic velour. Baby washclothes are generally made from knit terry. I think Joann's has knit terry but it may have a lot of poly in it (I've never bought it so I'm not sure). You really want something that is at least 80% cotton. 2 layers- one of knit terry and one of flannel would work good. I like to have one soft side and one side with loops to help clean up messes. That's why I like the woven velour (never bought it from Joann's though so maybe there's doesn't stay very soft). I only have to do one layer because the one side is soft and fuzzy and the other has the loops.
