I started a new job at Petco this week and I'll be on my feet for 6-8 hours at a time. Currently, I am wearing a pair of dr scholls slip on shoes that I got on clearance at wal-mart while I was pregnant. They're comfortable for about an hour or two but by the end of the night I had pain going up to my lower back.
So, after I get my first full check I'm going to invest in some good shoes. I haven't bought shoes in years (except my wal-mart clearance pair) and I have no idea what to look for.
They can be any color ( I wear a blue polo shirt and either khaki, black, or brown pants) as long as their closed toe.

Thanks in advance for any help.

much love
-Lindsey

Aerosoles (if you don't have a really wide foot) are extremely comfy, but I can only find one style in my width....

ALso, Birkenstock clogs are a wonderful way to go, but a bit pricey

I have worked in retail for 20 years. I have worn Naturalizers for the last 10 years or so. Not a bad choice. I just invested in some ECCO's (a Danish company). Oh my. They are wonderful and worth every cent of the $100 I spent. WOW !!!

I worked in a sporting goods store while in college and we sold tons of Merrells - everyone RAVED about them...especially nurses who often worked the 12 hour shifts. They're pricey too...but less than Birks, I think...and they are supposed to hold up "forever."

you can get birks for less than retail on ebay, btw. go for any of their clog styles. medical folks wear them a ton.

otherwise i'd consider some athletic shoes with good support (maybe a day hiker?)

I'll second the Ecco's. I bought 2 different pairs at sierratradingpost.com and they are both wonderful (and I got a great deal too!). I have found that I don't want to take them off even when I'm inside because they are sooo comfy and I'm a barefoot person normally.

be forwarned that not every foot is made for birkenstocks. I spent 100.00 on mine because and my feet ache and cramp in them. They are my only summer shoes though, so I wear them.

My favortite shoes are my Fall winter ones. My feet are always so happy to slip into them. They are wodden soled clogs. i can't remember the maker, but they are made in Sweden. they were about te same as my birks.

dansko!
they're about $120 and your feet are worth it. nurses and chefs wear these. they have non-slip soles. "professional" is the one they wear, and the most popular. i had major joint issues after baby and went through all the "good" shoes and these have changed shoes for me forever.
www.danskooutlet.com has a good selection for $75.

ecco and merrel are good (and i don't love birkenstocks), but nothing in my experience has compared to dansko.

I've seen Born shoes at Ross for real cheap. I have a pair of Quark's that I love. I got them a few years ago before Crocs were here and they are inexpensive.

After I had my baby I lost the arch in my feet, and I ached and hurt constantly. Now, the only shoes I can wear are Dansko, both inside and outside. I also love my Keen sandals for hiking, and when I need more sporty shoes. I love Dansko so much that I have 2 pairs of sandals, a pair of their boots, and a pair of clogs. They are so comfy. I used to buy $20-$30 shoes on sale, and I never thought I'd pay $120 for shoes... but I did and am so glad. I don't ache anymore.

I have really sensitive feet because I have reynauds syndrom. The only shoes I can wear and walk comfortably for more than 20 minutes are Sketchers.

Lindsey--I like the Lands End all-weather mocs. Most of the Sears stores have them instock. And they are like $30, I think. I might still have a pair that I can give you if you wear around an 8 or 9. (I think they are still in the garage). If that size works for you, I'll go look for them.

BTW, I forgot to bring your number with me last week  I promise that I will program it into my cellphone. We're coming up again this week --we're hoping for a place in Flying Hills. Although I fell in love with Eastwick at Exeter (the Fenton model).

Crocs, sooooo comfortable and I have had Merrells, birks, chacos, geckos, etc They are SUPER lightwieght which is very nice when you're on your feet all day. Some shoes are so heavy that I believe that makes feet/legs even more sore.

Get yourself some crocs, they are $30 and that is way less than 1/2 of what these other shoes cost. Let me know if you want me to send you a pair- they are EVERYWHERE out here as their offices are outside of Denver. I can get you any color, they have alot of "fun" colors and practical ones too. Holes for ventilation or no holes and they are good for winter too as you just wear socks with them.

:) Highly recommend them! They clean under a faucet with just soap and water and are naturally resistant to mold and smells!

I am goin to agree witht eh crocs too. I have a pair for work (hospital) and tow pair of the airwalk version that you get at payless ($15!). They are the most comfortable shoes I own. they are light wiehgt and my back doesn't hurt even after being on my feet for a long time. I need to find a brown pair and I will be all set for Winter.

I also love Dansko. I have a size 10 (41) pair on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7721029182&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1) right now, if anyone is interested.

I absolutely love my crocs, I wear them all the time...I even wear them around the house all day, and I hate to wear shoes! They are SO comfy.

That's funny - me too. Sometimes they feel more comfortable than going around bare foot. Then the kiddos ask me why I have my shoes on .... in a "no shoes" house. :)
