I keep seeing it on tv, www.floam.com, and the kids are dying for it. I'm worried that you don't get that much for the price and it will be used up quickly. Thought I'd see if anyone has tried it. Also, someone told me yesterday about these little beads that you put into these shapes and iron over them to melt them. She said they were great but now I can't remember the name (LOL)

omgosh, FLOAM :hahaha: ds must have seen a commercial b/c now he wants it..lol :rolleyes: i dunno teresa, it looks kinda odd to me, i get the impression there is NO way you could actually cover all those objects w/ it lol, kwim?

We had Floam when were little. I don't think we covered stuff with it though, we just made our own shapes or whatever. We played with it A LOT. Back then it was sold at toystores though, not on t.v.


DD has those bead things and she loves it. :) She's only 3 1/2 so she doesn't get them perfect, but they're still cute. :)

LOL I think the trick to covering everything is = you'd have to buy ALOT of tubes ykwim

My dd loves those bead things, and I hate them! Most children under 6 or 7 will quickly run out of patience putting those tiny beads on all those tiny pegs. And guess who gets to finish!! If you bump the pegboard thing before ironing, you will bump anywhere from a few to all of the beads off and have to redo sections. It's easy to drop those little things on top of the other ones already put on and risk knocking them over when picking the dropped one up. And the beads scatter all over the house and get lost.

We went to a festival this weekend where this was the only craft for children. While my kids were working on theirs, two other families with young children came and went away frustrated. I had to finish Michael's for him. Sarah would have finished on her own, but it was such slow going that I helped her, so we could move on.

Every time DD sees floam commerical she asked for it. Advertising at it's best.

Same here...everytime my son sees the commercial, he asks for floam! I am hesitant because I don't even know what it is made of... but I would love to hear if anyone has tried it out!

It's polystyrene beads (think bean bag chair, but smaller) with some kind of goop on them to make them stick together and be moldable.

I had some as a kid, it was fun but nothing special. I think I've seen something similar at ToysRUs.

OK, we are probably the ONLY parents who actually gave in to this....we actually just received our shipment of floam about a week ago. (believe it or not, it was on backorder for 6 weeks!) The girls were dying to have some - they have barely played with it. It does NOT stick well to things - very frustrating. They like the "feel" of it, but can't do much else with it but squish it around in their hands. BTW they are 8 & 5 yo.

It is definately NOT as much fun as it seems........

Thanks everyone. They are really wanting the floam but I know how they are about leaving things out and I'm worried it will get left out and dry (LOL) I just found some of the iron on beads in the oriental trading catalog and I'm debating trying those.

The beads are called Perler beads. We have a bunch here. I first learned about them when I worked for the YMCA afterschool program after college. My 5 year old loves them but needs some help. We did them as an activity at her birthday party, some kids liked them a lot, another was bored, LOL. They have a decent selection of beads, peg boards, and kits at Walmart.

My older 2 kids love perler beads! You can buy them at Walmart in the craft section.

We've had requests for FLOAM here as well, but I don't think it's going to happen ;)

i want Floam just to rub around in my hands... heehee... maybe a foot bath. Looks like it feels good. :P
